2012: The Year in Rock Band

Wow! What a year for Rock Band. We hit our fifth anniversary, reached 4,000 songs in the library, released Rock Band Blitz, put a ton of content on super sale, and of course, released Rock Band Board Game. Check out the highlights of the year below, in chronological order for your reminiscing convenience. Thank you for being such amazing fans!

  • Our Valentine’s Day Livestream - We kicked off the livestreams for the year with a Valentine's Day-themed episode where we played this year's Valentine's Day DLC pack, ate some chocolate candy, and gave relationship advice. Get a peek behind the scenes in our Facebook photo album.
  • Released Rock Band Board Game - Our April Fool’s Day video featuring the debut of "Rock Band without instruments" stars the Community Team at their finest. Check out the video and download the board game so you can play!
  • Harmonix and the Evolution of Beatmatch Gameplay Panel - A cadre of designers from Harmonix give you a big peek behind the curtain and detail the long evolution that brought them to Rock Band Blitz. Watch it here.
  • Rock Band Blitz Announced! - We announced a brand new Rock Band game that lets players play without instruments, using their entire existing Rock Band library. Our friends at G4 helped us announce it. Check out the video.
  • PAX East – Harmonix attended PAX East in our backyard in Boston. We had a demo of Rock Band Blitz and a full Rock Band 3 setup playable on the floor, as well as a Dance Central 3 stage. Check out HMXcj's wrap-up of her first PAX.
  • LIVE Podcast - While we were at PAX East, the team had our very first live recording of the Podcast at our panel. You can listen to it here.
  • HMXHenry interviews Less Than Jake - We asked you who we should interview at Warped Tour and the overwhelming response - despite them not having a song in the game yet - was Less Than Jake. HMXHenry was happy to oblige with an intimate interview on their tour bus after they saved our camera equipment from a surprise downpour.   • HMXHenry reveals the process of creating a DLC track for Rock Band in a Blog article called Life of a DLC Song. Get the inside scoop on what it takes to bring a DLC song to Rock Band
  • Rock Band Blitz is released! The latest Rock Band game comes straight to Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network Store, featuring fast-paced arcade-y gameplay, 20+ new songs, and crazy Power-ups. Get the details and watch the launch trailer.
  • Rock Band World is released! To coincide with the release of Rock Band Blitz, we released a Facebook App called Rock Band World to let players challenge each other, complete goals together, and see detailed stats.   • PAX Prime! We brought Rock Band Blitz and Dance Central 3 to PAX Prime in Seattle. Listen to our podcast recap and watch our insane panel, Harmonix's Game Show Extravaganza.
  • Over 1,100 DLC tracks go on sale for 50% off! As a huge thank-you to the fans, and as part of our FIVE YEAR anniversary of Rock Band, we put over 1,100 DLC tracks on sale for 50%. Singles, packs, and albums released before Rock Band 3 all went on sale, and are STILL on sale!   • The Beatles: Rock Band has its third anniversary and Harmonix shares memories about the development of the game. Read stories from the team closest to the game.
  • Rock Band hits 4,000 songs! In a HUGE milestone for both the Rock Band Music Library and the Rock Band Network, the 4,000th DLC song released was an RBN song from Revocation called "Chaos of Forms (2x Bass Pedal)".
