Get out your tie-dyed shirts and your bell bottom pants. We’re bringing you more Grateful Dead next week! Grateful Dead Pack 03 will include six of the quintessential jam band’s hits, including “Beat It on Down the Line,” “Cumberland Blues,” “Scarlet Begonias,” “Throwing Stones,” “Touch of Grey” and “U.S. Blues.” This means that as of Tuesday, the number of Grateful Dead tracks in the Rock Band Music Library will be a whopping 19! By my count, that’s exactly enough time to make a necklace out of daisies or find the most puppy shapes in clouds while laying in a warm summer field.
I kid. Although The Dead are known for their hippie followers, Deadheads, and personified the San Francisco scene in the mid-60s, the band actually exhibits a staggering amount of musical influences – jazz, rock, bluegrass, blues and more. They were even named one of Rolling Stone’s “The Greatest Artists of All Time.” I’m a big mandolin fan, so I can dig it.
Also next week, American rockers The Smithereens make their Rock Band debut with “A Girl Like You” from 1989’s 11 and “Only a Memory” from 1988’s Green Thoughts. The Smithereens are working on a new album, due out later this year.
