HMX RBN Picks II

The Rock Band Network Music Store has been live for a little over a week, and the great tracks keep pouring in. Here's what HMXers bought this week...

HMXMisterGame, RBN Senior Producer

Jonathan Coulton - "Code Monkey" - This is a pretty obvious one; it’s become the de-facto nerd anthem, and even though I’ve been listening to it for years, the line “Code Monkey thinks maybe manager wanna write ***damn login page himself” still cracks me up.

JoCo, being a de-facto nerd himself, was the perfect artist to test drive our process. I called him early last year and got him into the closed beta early, and he was a good sport despite the numerous issues he discovered along the way.

Also, he’s a dreamboat.

HMXHenry, Associate community manager

The Nebraska Sailing Authority - "Second Best Friend" - This band is sporting one of the best band names in RBN, and it doesn’t hurt that "Second Best Friend" is such a fun track as well. Reminiscent of Blue Album era Weezer, with a rollicking piano part backing up the acoustic guitar plucking. Be on the lookout for the build up in the last minute of the song… that’s the time to start partying!

Flight of the Conchords - "The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)" - Easily the most romantic song ever released in Rock Band. The sultry sounds of New Zealand’s premier folk band may not blister any fingers on the guitar, or punish drummers with relentless blast beats, but this song is all heart. It’s one for the crooners, those not afraid to open their hearts to a beautiful girl with a kebab. So dim the lights down to very low (here we go), put this song on a set list for that special someone and send this track out to the most beautiful girl in the room (in the whole wide room).

Alchemilla - "Bleeder" - Not only does this track seriously rock, but the band's singer Kat is an HMXer and an awesome person. But seriously, the track rocks hard, and Kat gives Rock Band vocalists something to show off with.

Attack Attack! - "Stick Stickly" - This song's video spread through Webtowne like a laughing baby video, so getting the chance to play the song in our own game is a bit of a thrill. Bonus points if you can squat real low and headbang or jog in place while playing guitar.*

Bang Camaro - "Push Push (Lady Lightning)" - Expert Rock Band guitarists love Bang Camaro...I am not an Expert Rock Band guitarist. BUT, I do like putting their songs on No Fail and flailing away, and this solo really gives me something to flail about.

HMXBinThrDunTht, RBN Executive Producer

This week I have been on the road for GDC [Game Developers Conference] and I am currently in Austin for the SXSW Interactive and Music conference. A lot of good songs have made it into the store recently, and this week I have decided to give a shout out to the Harmonix bands. As you may or may not know, practically everyone who works here is in a band. I think that's what makes Rock Band so good...it's made by musicians. So check out these songs from my hard working colleagues:

The Main Drag - They have the MOST songs posted of any band currently in RBN, so take your pick!

Bang Camaro - "Push Push (Lady Lightning)"

Alchemilla - "Bleeder"

Giant Target - "In Memories;" "Signs"

Speck - "Grumpytown;" "VP of Booty Reports"

DnA's Evolution - "The Heist"

RBN songs are available for the Xbox 360. Pricing varies. Click here for a full list of songs available for RBN.
