Rock Band 3 Fender Squier Stratocaster Pricing and Release Date

Pre-order and pricing information has been released for the Rock Band 3 Fender Squier Stratocaster - a fully functional, full-sized, electric guitar with strings that also functions as a game controller for Rock Band 3’s innovative Pro mode gameplay. Watch the Squier in action in the video below.

The guitar is priced at $279.99 and functions as both a Rock Band 3 game controller in the Pro Guitar or Pro Bass modes, and as a real guitar you can play outside of the game.

EU release date and price?

I'm buying this on day one. Please release: Jimi Hendrix Zack Wylde Ozzy Metallica ACDC (with pro guitar) Pearl Jam Stone Temple Pilots All these with pro guitar / pro bass. Also, any chance fender will make a bass option? I'd like to buy that as well. Would be nice ;)

One other thing that Harmonix needs to do for us DLC junkies. Make the extra tracks (pro modes), and charge like .25 cents to upgrade our existing tracks. I have over 1200 songs for this game and its a pain when Im trying to find a song to play on keys basic or pro as most don't have that track available. with all the DLC that has been sold, it would be worthwhile to do that money wise for those songs/bands that actually use the keys but with the guitar/bass well they all use those. Come on harmonix gave ya an idea to make a few extra dollars there from us DLC junkies.

Be nice to know how much this is gonna cost ahead of time so I can budget for it so I can get it the day its released. I'm sure they already know how much its going to be. :(

Please make a real bass option. It's kind of silly to have a 5th and 6th useless string when playing "bass". Also, the tuning will be off. (B0)-E1-A1-D2-G2 is common, and a regular guitar is E2-A2-D3-G3-B3-E4. That's what I mean by the 5th and 6th strings being "dead" - you can only use 4 of the 6 strings on a guitar to match the tone and patterns of a bass, even accounting for it being an octave off. So "pro" bass is limited to those 4 strings if using the guitar. If a 5th or 6th string is used, it would be completely wrong. If a 5 string bass option is enabled, in any case, it would have to be a *lower* B0 string - and a lot of the bands in Rock Band do use a 5 string bass now(it's plain to hear a low B drone/thumping in many songs). Kind of a catch-22, then as you need a string that doesn't exist and would have to re-map the patterns later on when a real bass controller is enabled. As well as a way to detect a pro bass versus a pro guitar playing "bass" at a later date.(say when Rockband 4 comes out in a couple of years?). Pro bass needs its own real bass. There's just no way around it. An extra few dollars for a bass controller won't matter one bit to people who are going to buy these "pro" controllers. Will I want to play "bass" on a Guitar controller? No way.

This is DIRT CHEAP. A regular Squier is $179-199 I thought for sure this would be $350-450. At Under $300 I'm buying this in a heartbeat. March is WAY too long to wait. I was hoping for late Nov. Preorders and no later than Feb 1st on sale. Agreed- need pro guitar for ACDC (studio tracks would be nice too) and Hendrix & Boston.

I cannot believe how people are balking at the estimated price of this. This is pretty much a REAL Fender guitar people. You have heard of Fender havent you??? This is a great price for this instrument and will make it fun and easy for beginners to learn the guitar. I do have one question...will more PRO parts be available for the existing songs out there? I was dissapointed that there are no PRO parts for the Hendrix DLC.

The idea still blows my mind. A real guitar interacting with a Rock Band video game. Crazy, I say!

any color choices? it looks like eric clapton's "blackie". rb needs to add some of his songs, come to think of it.

I want to know if you need the Midi adapter or if it comes with one. I'll be picking up an adapter to use with the keyboard we already have.

Can't wait, just have to practice with the mustang until then. hopefully ill be able to do much more when this is out

Think $280 is steep? how about a price comparison... Guitar lessons - $50/hour (how many hours will it take you to get up to pro guitar expert?) lets lie and say only 25 hours Squire Stratocaster - $179.99 (most basic model- not the one you get with RB3) Amplifier Frontman 10g - $80 Total = $1509.99 VS. Rockband 3 Game - $60 Fender Squire Stratocaster - $ 279.99 PS3 (don't lie you already have one... anyway) - 299.99 Home Theater system (See above) $399.99 Total = $1040.00 (In reality its only game and guitar for most at a cost of $340.00) Sounds like a freaking good deal to me!

I play lefty and wonder if there is gonna be a lefty version. I spoke to someone from Fender who wasn't sure.

So, will it be pre-order from Fender? Pre-order from here? Will the pre-ordering start at midnight on the first? (Yes, I will be logging in where-ever and pre-ordering at midnight if possible!)

Well I think it is a good price ( a little high ) but considering that it IS a real guitar and it serves a a controller it is pretty nice. Can´t wait !!!!! THANKS HMX
