White Zombie and Turbonegro DLC

We’d never want to encourage irresponsible behavior, but this week’s DLC stars have no such scruples. It’s a punk-metal kinda week with two potent shots of horror-rock from the masters of the form, White Zombie. Once you master those, you can rev it up some more with an anthem from Oslo’s kings of glam and trash, Turbonegro.

A month ago we unveiled Rob Zombie’s new track “War Zone” as DLC, which led to requests for vintage tracks by his former band White Zombie. You want ‘em, you got ‘em: “More Human Than Human” is the band’s greatest hit, a song that even snagged a Grammy nomination in 1995. Zombie’s love of horror movies is legendary, and this tune is practically a musical tribute to Blade Runner, taking its title and some of the lyrics from the film. If you ever saw the video, we’re proud to report that it was made near our stomping-ground, at a high school in the Boston suburb of Framingham.

A slightly earlier Zombie track, “Black Sunshine” continues our tradition of racing-car songs (we recommend playing it alongside Yngwie Malmsteen’s “Red Devil”). This tune also marks the Rock Band debut of punk legend Iggy Pop, who does one of the spoken bits.

Turbonegro’s “Wasted Again” just may be the most hedonistic anthem we’ve ever allowed into Rock Band, and that’s sayin’ something: These guys advocate all sorts of naughty things, including climbing into snowplows and (gasp) going to the disco. Borrowing the song title from Black Flag and proudly copping riffs from everyone from the Ramones to the Stooges to AC/DC, this is four minutes of unmitigated cheap thrills. You can fight with your bandmates over who gets to put on the stoner voice and say “Dude, it’s four AM”—That’s the most fun part of a totally fun song.
