So I am a serious movie buff, I aspire to become a director, I got accepted into my film course and that begins next year

I do a lot of filming and photographing, I am always storyboarding scenes (in my mind of course) and so forth

I've always had an interested for Vanilla Sky, after 7 years from when I first saw the trailer I remember two things, Tom Cruise nearly falling off the top of a VERY high building and the poster for the film

I finally watched it today...yes all these years later

its crazy to see how young Tom looks, how lush Cameron Diaz is and that lingering 90's feel

The movie itself is so morbid, I genuinely had a pang of regret and sadness after watching it

I guess it reflects the major mistakes in your life, after watching it, you kind of wish that he never got into that car, when you see the scene you think its harmless and its fine but soon boils down to madness and from then on its just.....warped hell

absolute hell..

its truly amazing to see the effect that someone's face has..

that ending though, it just made me get up and scream MORE!

I definitely recommend you watch it, its not perfect but its damn good, one of a kind, one of Tom Cruises freakiest roles and I think its one of Cameron Crowe's best works

and to relate it back to my first paragraph, it really drives me harder to film making...so inspiring

I'll tell you in another life when we're both cats.

Yeup! I am not sure I would have seen this without Jason Lee in it. I try to see every Cameron Crowe movie but I try to avoid Tom Cruise movies.

No I'll have to look into that, another movie i watched not too long ago out of boredom starred Jason Lee, it was called "The Ballad of Jack and Rose" i had never even heard of that movie before. He wasn't in this much either.

Edit: what is "Mumford" about?

It's with Lorne Dean(Joe from "Say Anything") he plays Mickey Mumford who is a psychologist in the town of Mumford and he's really good at it. He ends up helping a lot of people but falls in love with one of his patients but Dr Mumford has a secret...it also stars Jason Lee, Hope Davis, and a few others of note. Written and Directed by Lawrence Kasden. I like this movie so much I bout the DVD and downloaded it onto Apple TV.

It was a movie i saw one day.
After watching, i felt it was just o.k.
Tom is a good actor, this much is true,
But the movie was rather blue
I may rewatch it some other time,
but believe me as i conclude my rhyme
There are much better movies than Vanilla Sky
For example, to see something amazing, go watch Pi.
Theres not been a movie quite like it,
Thats because Darren Aronofsky is the Sh*t.
He did the fountain and Requiem for a dream,
and in 2010, robocop. See what i mean?

Vanilla Sky is a remake of the movie Abre Los Ojos (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0125659/) which is way better imo

EDIT: btw you can watch the entire movie over at hulu http://www.hulu.com/watch/28166/open-your-eyes

I watched both "Vanilla Sky" and "Abre Los Ojos" pretty much back to back. They were both good but I give "Vanilla Sky" a slight edge for injecting some humour into the story at times.

To be honest, I didn't see that much of a difference between the two. They're almost identical except for the main character's actions when he finds out what's really going on. Interesting to see Penelope Cruz play the same character in each movie though.

I also felt Abre Los Ojos was the stronger film, and integrated the 'weirder' elements of the story better. I felt that some of the dreamlike portions of Vanilla Sky started to become annoying after a certain amount of time.

I also felt that Cameron Crowe injected too much of himself into Tom Cruise's character. I never bought that he loved Radiohead and John Coltrane - I bought that Crowe does - but not Cruise's character. I could however see him using all of that stuff as a way to enhance his cool factor, so in a way it worked - just not in the way the director intended. That said, any film that throws Jeff Buckley on the soundtrack earns kudos for that move alone.

My favorite part of Vanilla Sky was the nightclub scene. I've always been fascinated by dance clubs, for while they're ostensibly about congregation, mingling and connecting with other humans - I also find that they're equally a forum for disconnection, alienation and loneliness. I thought that was perfectly captured in that sequence, and I also loved how the imagery of the mask was used, especially when he has it on backwards.

So, a disappointment overall - but a fascinating one.

My favourite part of Vanilla Sky was...

"Finally...a good hair day!"

I loved the movie the first couple of times i watched it, the most recent it wasn't nearly as good. Not sure why it lost it's appeal, probably cause I knew what was goin on. It's still a decent movie, but deserving of it's own thread...probably not. I can't remember if I've seen Pi or not, but if it's nearly as good as requiem for a dream I should watch it again. Requiem is one of the most artistic movies I've seen, I think I cry every time I've watched it, and very few movies have that affect on me even the first time through. It's the part where the son visits the mother that gets me.
