I bought the 2 of the Mad Catz cymbal packs like a lot of other posting in the forum, I didn't want to wait until the triple pack came out. The mounting options with 2 of the two packs were not very appealing and beyond that, I just wasn't happy with the orginal mounting option that came with the two pack....the poles were too short, didn't like where the HH mounted, ect. So here is what I came up with.....It uses all the brackets and poles that came with the cymbals.(Thanks to all those using PVC in other posts, that is where I started with my idea)
Parts all available at Lowes or Home Depot..here's the list
1" PVC pipe - 5 ft
3/4" Compression Tee Fittings - 2
3/4" to 1" Female Adapter - 2
1" Tee Fittings - 3
1" 45 degree elbow - 2
1" 90 degree elbow - 2
1" Cap - 3
#17 O rings - 6
First attach the compression fittings to the small legs of your RB drums. There are two rubber gaskets that comes with the fitting. Cut the gasket so that it forms a "C" and then cut it in half....use one half for the top and bottom fitting. This will make it much easier to get them on and it will fit much better.
Once you have the compression fitting on, screw the 3/4" to 1" female adapters on, attach a Tee to each adapter with a small section of 1" PVC, then you cut your 1" PVC pipe into the sections that are best fit for how you want your cymbals placed.
I used another Tee to attach my blue cymbal in the center, then used the 45 degree elbows to bring the yellow and green cymbals to each side. Once the angle was how I wanted it, I used the 90 degree elbows to mount another section of PVC with the cap - this is what I attached the brackets for the cymbals.
From here, use two of the o rings and slide each of them down the sections of the PVC that you are going to put your bracket on (the one that came with your cymbals). The o rings are used because the 1" PVC is slightly smaller than the large end of the Mad Catz bracket....the o rings provide a great non slip hold.
Mount your brackets....attach your cymbals and you're ready to play. This set up allows a lot of flexiblity as you can still use your original bracket to raise your cymbals up and down or side to side. I hope I explained it well enough so you can use it if you like...if not I would be happy to answer any questions. I am using a spray paint for plastics to paint this set up black..I will post pics when its dry....also I know there are several opinions regarding cymbal placement...this is how I like mine, not trying to be a professional, just having fun.

Nice! What covers do you have on your drum pads?

Good idea...and yes, what you got covering your pads there?

Thanks...the covers are Staples mouse pads (the red circular ones) with the wrong side up. Then I took some black material (speaker cover material cut in circles) and put over the mouse pads so they would look better. I put double sided tape around the edges, placed the material to cover the edges and put black tape over that.

i am going to attempt this mod. Looks awesome and the way i have my three cymbals mounted right now is a little cramped. thanks for the tips!
PS - do you also have mouse pads on the cymbals? does this effect the sensitivity and responsivness of thim? i need to do something to quiet mine down a bit!

wow, just get the Ion set if you're going to go that crazy with it.
Patience is a virtue and the Triple Cymbal Expansion is perfect with cymbal placement and distance while still maintaining a mobile set that I can bring to friend's houses all the time. Just came home from an amazing Rock Band party with the smoke machine and stage kit going on full blast.
It's 5 A.M. because I'm just now going to bed. It was quite the party.
This mod is lame though. Sorry dude... patience is a virtue... you could have already bought a triple cymbal expansion and had it at your house for $29.99 if you just pre-ordered like I did at Amazon.com
I swear, some people amaze me with their noob-ness. :)

Some people don't have $300 for another drum set and some people also like to tinker and make something thier own. You don't agree with it, fine.
I happen to think the stage kit and playing until 5 AM is taking things too far and is a waste of money, but if that's what you like, great.
Everyone has their opinions likes and dislikes. The forums are a place to share that. Take what you like, what you can use and leave the rest.
Some people amaze me their lack of intelligent comments.

I tried mouse pads and they worked fine with no decrease in sensitivity.
I ultimately found some dense closed cell foam used that and then put the staples moust pad over that. It works GREAT, reduced the sound and kept the sensitivity. :)
By the way....thanks for all the kind words regarding this mod. I have taken several ideas from others throughout this forum and applied them to my gaming experience.....it's a great place to share information!

....dooooouuuuucccccchhhheeeeeeeeeee bbbbbbaaaaagggggggg.....
also, how sturdy is this? i currently have my 3 pads up using one of the other methods (using parts from my RB1 drum set), and my green cymbal keeps registering double hits because it's too wobbly (at least i hope that's what the problem is...), and i was looking for an alternative option that would make it sturdier.

i now have 4 cymbals connected to this mod (thanks to doc's double crash mod) and it is very sturdy. No double hits at all.

This is a sick mod. I feel like this would be amazing with doc's double crash mod. Whenever I get the money (yes, I'm too poor to buy PVC pipes) I'll try this out.

Hey Bigtam, I just built your set up, and made a little modification to it. Check it out in the pics; the legs make the whole set more stable. :D
I don't have my third cymbal yet (have it ordered, though), but you get the idea.
