The correct answer is

Get a Wii.

I mean, wii sports is free, and its better than MGS4 and Little big planet, combined.

1. Just put your movie onto a flash drive plug in the flash drive and upload it to your ps3, there is probably another way to do this i just don't know i haven't done it. or you can just buy/rent movies from the PSN.

2. 80 gigs, should hold you over, on mine i have like 5 or 6 saved games
700+ mp3's and over 5000 pictures. and i still have 30 gigs left or so. and i have had it since last christmas, it depends on how much games you play and how much media you have

3. Any standard laptop HD will work

you need a flash drive first, then put the movie on your computer, copy it to the flash drive take the flash drive out of the computer put it in ps3, then it under video it should say USB relay device press triangle press show all and then click and save

1. First ensure the movies/videos are in the right format. The PS3 can read MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MP4 formatted videos, so convert whatever videos you want on the PS3 to that format. There are a number of video converting programs on the internet if you need one (or DVD ripping programs that have MP4 formats if you're ripping from DVDs).
Next put the movie on a USB-hard drive. Plug that hard drive into your PS3, find the video file and save to your HDD.

2. It depends on what you put on your PS3. Most of my original 60gb HDD is still available, but I don't store movies on my PS3 (that's what my computer is for).

3. Yes. You'll first have to back-up any saved data on your HDD to an external USB drive. Then you can replace your stock HDD with any 2.5" SATA drive (laptop drive) and transfer the data back to it.

if i do this can i take the movie of my drive and keep it on the PS3?

Yes, provided the video is the correct format (see my previous post).

You can also rent and buy movies form the playstation store that DL directly to your HDD for a few bucks. and i hear that starting next year you'll be able to rip bluray movies directly to the hard drive. Or is that transfer them to your PSP? IDR. I will say this. the PS3 is a great system. i love it. but adding a PSP in the mix makes it so much better. things like remote play and swappable games is great. with remote play, if you have a wireless signal and connect your C to your PS3 with a media server, you can access ANY movie song or picture on either yourPS3 or PC on your PSP wirelessly from anywhere theres a wireless access point.

Also if you have a computer you can network to your computer and transfer movies with something like Orb. (http://www.orb.com/)

Hey im also a future ps3 owner and was wondering a few things
is it possible to save a game? as in

You put the disc then the ps3 reads it then saves the game so you dont need the disc anymore?

if not then what is the 80 gig for if your just gonna watch movies/music? i'd imagine they wouldnt take up that much space

No its not possible to do that but you can download games off of the PlayStation Network Store.

Alot of games Install on the Hard Drive to make Loading the game off of the Disc easier, among other things. Some Installs have reached up to 4 GBs(*coughdevilmaycrycough*). Outside of game installs game save data and Downloadable content is also saved on the Hard Drive.(Trust me sometimes Game installs add up quickly)

In addition to what Mystlyfe77 said, the PS3 can play multiple types of MPEG-4 video, including h.264, XviD, and DivX (version 5 or greater).

To the OP: If you are that much worried about HDD space get the 160GB PS3 bundle which is coming out tomorrow.

http://www.ebgames.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=72969

but if you cannot afford the extra 100 bucks, 80GB should last you a good long while.

If you're worried about hard drive space, buy the cheapest PS3 you can get your hands on and throw a 500GB hard drive in there later... Newegg has some online for $119, so that's not terribly bad at all...

Oblivion is right at 5GB, and MGS4 installs 5GBs at a time. Game installs add up VERY quickly. My 60GB only has 5GBs free thanks to 5 game installs taking over 20GBs and several PSN games. I'll have to upgrade to a larger HDD before too much longer.

does the ps3 do this automatically?

iamtheddrman

Not all games install on PS3. For some games, like MGS4 I believe, it is mandatory and it will prompt you automatically. For other games, like Ridge Racer 7, it is optional and asks you when the game first boots. Still other games don't have the option to install at all.

killer_roach

Games I own that have mandatory installs:
Metal Gear Solid 4
Grand Theft Auto 4

Games I own that have optional installs:
Ridge Racer 7
Soul Calibur 4
Virtua Fighter 5

Considering I own about 20 PS3 games, that should say something right there.

Yes you can, but you have to backup your data onto a USB drive before removing the original hard drive. The drive has to be FAT32 according to the tutorial below, but I have not tried it myself so I couldn't tell you one way or the other.

Cheapest too...

Seeing as I buy all DLC

I had to remove my installs for RB DLC

I need an upgrade badly

iamtheddrman

I plan on upgrading in December when I get a little extra cash and I'll be getting that Samsung unless another comes out that's bigger/better before then. Luckily, I'm not completely out of space yet because I bought RB for 360, but with all the great PSN games coming out, I'm running low quickly.

What size drive to you have now?

Yes, any 2.5" drive with a SATA interface that fits inside the PS3 bay should work.

That's correct. It will prompt you to format it when you put a new drive in if it is not FAT32

Btw, you can delete posts if you click "Edit". There should be a button in the box that pops up to delete.

Find out your free space from the Settings menu, System Settings, can't remember from there if it's System Information or About (I have a 320GB hard drive, worries about free space are a distant memory).

Yes, you can uninstall the games... go into your Game Data folder in the Game menu of the XMB, select the game, hit Triangle, then select "Delete" from the pop-up menu. (If you're paranoid you can select "Information" first to make sure you're deleting your install.) Deleting an install will not delete save games, as they are located elsewhere.

Yeah, you can uninstall games and still be in the clear for more space. Don't delete your saved games though. I've had this for GTA4 and DMC4 since the save files are relatively small, but I just haven't had the will to go back to them.

Game Data Utility folder + triangle ever the file you want to delete + delete
