View Full Version : Need clarification - lack of strum bar rebound = defect?

I've read all the posts about the malfunctioning Rock Band guitars that don't register or double register strums. Other posts complain about the guitar's design, specifically the rebound of the strum bar. My question is: Is the lack of rebound on the strum bar a defect or is that the way the guitar was designed?

My Xbox 3360 guitar's strum bar registers my strums, but it doesn't rebound/re-center itself after a strum. Is this the way the guitars were designed and are supposed to work? Or do I have a guitar with a broken strum bar?

It was designed this way. The no rebound can be blamed on the strum bar sinking into a foam pad when pushed and then a very weak spring trying to recenter the thing.

I just opened up my guitar an hour ago to take a look at the inside of it (nothing was wrong, just wanted a peek) and saw that the foam was misaligned so it was pretty much hitting no or little foam.

So because of the bad foamwork, and even if the foam was centered, the strum bar would have to travel a long ways to hit the switch.

btw I have the plastic switch w/ the contacts in a housing

Anyway without my own set of springs or a means of getting the tools I need to put springs in, I just decreased the distance the plastic nubs on the strum bar needed to travel to hit the plastic switch on the contact housing tower. I put about 1-1.5mm more at the end of each and it definitely makes playing more enjoyable.

But since mine was working fine in the first place, I think the model with the plastic contact housing tower are the ones that aren't affected too badly. The majority of the PS3 strats might have been the ones w/ the bare metal contacts which have been the ones that I've seen with the most issues
