Hopefully we can mitigate this pedal situation by simply correcting the way you put your foot on the pedal. If people place their foot on the bass pedal correctly, there wouldn't be so many problems.
Heel should go right where the pivot point is (where the pedal meets the base). The tutorial shows you this. If you play this way, the spring is right underneath the arch of your foot, meaning no undue pressure is being put on the spring and force is evenly distributed across the pedal.
If you play with your heel on the base, your toes will go slightly past the orange line (BAD!). If you play this way, the front of your foot/toes, which apply the most pressure, will be pushing directly on that spring, which is a lot of pressure, considering how strong that spring is! Whatever you do, don't do this.
If you play like I have instructed, you pretty much need minimal force to hit kick notes. The pedal should barely move up/down to hit notes if you're playing it right.

I wear size 13 shoes, you must have 2x4's for feet if it's still a problem!
Also: it's best to take off your shoes for playing.

I always take my shoes off. The tutorial says to keep the pedal pushed down constantly and to only tap it, not stomp it up and down. Use your calf muscle to play, not your hip to move your entire leg. I think you'd really have to be mashing this pedal to snap it in two.

I have size 15 feet. I haven't felt like I was going to break the pedal at any point in time.
I've tried that keeping it pushed down and then tap when a bass note comes but I have a hard time with double notes one after another. Oh well, I guess I'll learn, I'm still trying to do well on the medium songs before I go off to hard.
