1. Rubber bands
2. Whammy Bar

Yep, mine just broke yesterday. It actually happened when I wasn't even using it. I heard "SNAP!" then saw the whammy go dead.
How would you use a rubber band to fix it? I don't want to open my guitar. Blue_dragon, please elaborate.

Whoh! It broke on it's own? That's scary! But you know where the strap goes on the guitar? Well you put the rubber band on the whammy and then attach the rubber band to the end there. Then just make the ruber band tight enough to where it can still strech a bit, but enough to where it can hold the whammy all of the way up.

Ahhh ok, that makes sense. Thanks!
Yea, it was very strange. The night before last I was using it, and I thought I heard a sound, but just ignored it because nothing happened. Then yesterday it just popped lol At least it stays in the right angle, not like my Xplorer whammy or anything.
I also think I'm experiencing the downstrum problem. I hate playing Paranoid, Go with the Flow, and When You Were Young, because the constant notes are messing up. It doesn't matter if I only downstrum, or if I try alternate strumming. It's annoying.

ALERT!!!!!!
Hi All,
We have noticed on several posts that some people are trying to fix their guitars themselves. We understand that many of you do not want to wait for a replacement instrument, but we strongly recommend that you use the warranty process.
If you open your guitar casing to attempt to fix the peripheral yourselves you are voiding your warranty. This means if your attempts to repair fail and you return the guitar for a warranty replacement, or your fix succeeds but at a later date you need to use the warranty service, you may be charged for the cost of the instrument.
Please consider this before attempting one of the fixes listed by other users on these forums.
Cheers,

My whammy bar broke last night too.
I didn't want to risk voiding the warranty by opening it and trying to fix it myself (in case I failed), so I opted to utilize the warranty and get a replacement guitar.
Hopefully it shows up in a couple days like they claim it will. In the meantime, that rubber band fix sounds like a great idea.

Yup I have also fallen victim to the spring breaking and to add insult to injury the strum bar went right after lol

You can add me to the list of broken whammies. It was funny actually...our band finally got to play Detroit Rock City so we were all excited. So I'm jamming and hit a note and start to try to whammy it and my whammy's dead. It just wiggled there sadly. So, kinda put a damper on the song but, no biggie. EA's tech support was very friendly and are already shipping out a new guitar for me.

Ditto.
Was in the middle of playing a 7 song set and all of the sudden I heard a loud pop and the whammy was no more.
Since I'm 0% mechanically inclined, took EA up on their warranty service rather than crack the case. Here's hoping it shows as quickly as they promise.

My wammy bar still has spring action but its not working. Like I can't bend notes anymore. Very odd. I can hear something when rattling when I shake the guitar but the wammy definetly has spring left to it. It feels exactly the same. Not sure whats going on.
