View Full Version : Canadian release date?

Have we ever actually got a confirmed Canadian release date?
My EBGames is telling me December 18th for 360 and no date for the PS3. (Don't ask me why they would separate the two, they just did. Something about not getting a price for the PS3 version yet..)
Sean? And please, for the love of all that is holy, if you don't have a release date yet don't ignore the question... tell us outright that you don't have a release date yet.

Everybody is basically saying - as we have been informed - December 19th. Oh joy. A 3 week's wait. That's bull**** eh? I don't see why the Americans get it sent out about a week ago, and we have to wait until DECEMBER 19TH.

Depending on where you are it's just a hop over the border to get it.
And it's going to be cheaper buying it in the US because of our strong dollar... That's how I got mine!

Hrm.. not sure we need yet another thread with the subject referencing Canada/Canadian (seeing as how there's dozens and dozens there already covering all the same stuff). BUT..
Amazon.ca lists the 360 and PS3 game only in stock. I don't know if it's accurate, but it is listed as in-stock.

I'm getting mine today, there's a store in Joliette, just north of Montreal who got a couple of copies for 360. They didn't take much, didn't know if they'd sell at the price they're asking.
Their provider is selling them at quite a premium, but luckily I had credit for a bunch of trade-ins so I'll be rocking for less that what it would have cost me to buy Guitar Hero 3.
and without the bad game.

I'm in Winnipeg and my mom and I go down to Grand Forks every year to visit my Grandparents. If I had money (which I dont.... =( ) I would already have it. But not everybody is fortunate enough to live close to the border.
Say, I'm assuming there is, but just a confirmation:
Anybody know if Rock Band is online enabled? I have not yet seen proof, but I assume there should be.

Same reason PS3 gets shipped things late or in smaller quantities. Everybody hates Canada.
PS - I own a PS3, I feel the pain. But I hate you.

Mmm, thanks for the support. I think I've realized the "hatred" towards Canada by now.

The release date in canada will be between 17-20th of December... In all likelyhood following our traditional Tueday release dates, it is likely to roll out to the customers on the 18th. I had a buddy of mine pick me up two in Portland and ship it up to me on release day, just arrived yesterday.
Only problem with early importing is the fact that EA/HMX isn't honoring (or is that honouring) the warranty here in Canada until release, or atleast that's the gist of what I have gotten through the posts here. While I only put a couple songs on the guitar last night, i put the drums through about 20 tunes. My friend, who got the second box, says his guitar is broken. WHich considering we both have the PS3 version is a bit of a problem until HMX/RO resolve their controller compatibility issues.

The other problem with importing is customs. If you declare it, you have to pay 20% or something. If you don't, they might confiscate it (someone posted in an earlier Canada thread that they'd seen a confiscated RB box at a customs post, so this *does* happen).

Yes but some people are quite sneaky with it. Or if you have relatives in the states you could just order it to their house and get them to ship it to you.

Actually you have to pay PST and GST, no duty.
What is it with people and making posts that sound authoratative (about the release date) but they have no proof to back things up. This just breeds heresay.
Don't you think if it was fact that HMX moderators would just keep posting in all these theads "The games Canadian release date is xxx yy" and then close the thread. Or put up a sticky or whatever.
Here's how it works, HMX employees don't know and therefore couldn't say or they might know, but can't say... so if they can't say... how the heck can anyone here do so. Is this the side effect of the free flow of information via the internet that any information one hears about anything is deemed bond until proved otherwise? Be more cynical people.
BTW, a guy posted in another thread about Canadian DLC that a friend of his ordered from Amazon.ca last week and got it delivered by friday. Game only, but that seems to imply it's available within the borders. I'm looking for futher clarification if it has french packaging changes on or with it.

Not really... free trade and all that jazz... You'll end up paying your 6% GST at the border and that's it really. If they are feeling miserable at customs you might get hit with another 5% customs fee, but it's unlikely.
I assume based on the above it's been a while since you had anything sent to you from the states... it's time to get on that, our dollar is great, and canadian retailers still can't seem to get their act together and lower prices... bhphotovideo.com is great for electronics, hell I paid 100$ shipping, and another 100$ in GST and still ended up saving over 500$ on an amp I bought from there versus anywhere in Calgary.
Course if the product is not made in the US, you may end up paying more in customs. Case in point the wife got a bundle of clothes off of ebay for 45$, lady wrote down that it was worth 400$, all of it made across seas, she got hit with an 18% customs fee and owed 100$...

Yeah my comment about PST and GST applies solely to importing Rock Band. Other types of items with other countries of origin will have different fees associated with their importation.

Two words: Black. Friday.
That's why us Canadians got hosed and don't buy into that "bilingual packaging" nonsense.
However, that said, a distributor my store deals with to get stuff from the states (like the PS3 Collector's Edition of Stranglehold that isn't licensed for sale in Canada  ) managed to get us 5 bundles yesterday because they're still sitting on shelves down there.
Then he tried to rape us on the cost.
Our distributor cost for these things? $200.
We have to sell them for $239.99.
No thanks.
We called all the people on our pre-order list and not a single one of them wants to pay a premium to get this thing early up here. (Good for them.)
We're going to hold onto them until we get ours from the Canadian distributors and ship these ones back.

No offense, but all those links are referring to a story from Shacknews. Shacknews reports from a source at MTV but does not identify who that source is. Now, no doubt the game has been delayed, but nobody from MTV, EA or HMX have confirmed the date as Dec. 18. That is what some retailers have in their system, but as we all know, those dates are unreliable. So for me, no, that is not enough of a confirmation. Not until someone from EA/HMX/MTV says it directly, in a public press release or interview.

AdamWill: I'm hoping to drive down across the boarder either wednesday (tomorrow) or thursday and get a copy. I was hoping to pick up an extra copy as well knowing that someone will want to get their hands on it early heh, but I know i'll have to pay extra for them at customs but i can make the money back selling the spare box so i'm not worried. I never drove across before so anything else we Canadians should know before driving over?

I'm still guessing it's going to be around the 20th or so as that's what EB, FS, and BB have been telling me. I'm really hoping we see it sooner though as I'm starting to go a little nuts waiting for this game. If I find out it's going to be delayed until after Christmas I'm going to snap.

Meh i've been trying to see what stores just across the boarder on Niagra Falls Bvld. that might have some stock of rock band but the ones ive checked (gamestop/walmart/bestbuy/Toysrus) all seem to have no info on the PS3/Xbox360 Special editions, and gamestop actually had a release date in Dec for the PS3 bundle so I'm hoping I don't end up comming back empty handed haha :)
