However, I'm not so blinded by their awesomeness that I don't see the problems with putting the heroes of prog in the game.
First of all, every album is on a different record label. There could be legal problems without even choosing a specific song.
Second of all, as much as I love James, his insane vocal range eliminates a lot of possibilities. Most of us males can't comfortably go above a high A, which he frequently does.
Third, the keyboard parts. You can't just leave those out, and there's no support for a keyboard player. Again, this knocks out a lot of possibilities, unless you keep the keyboards as an NPC kind of player and have the rest of the band play the backings during the solos. It may or may not work. Sadly this problem also rules out most Children of Bodom songs, but I digress...
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be able to play DT in the game, but I would hate to see a DT song with watered down instrumentals, whole sections eliminated because of compatibility issues, simplified vocals, etc.
Taking all these things into consideration, I'd pick a song like The Dark Eternal Night. Very easy vocal range, no keyboard solo, and overall full of heavy proggy goodness.
Here are some other songs that could work: Panic Attack, Sacrificed Sons, War Inside My Head, Endless Sacrifice, maybe Root of All Evil if you took the vocals in the chorus down an octave. I would love nothing more than to do something like The Glass Prison or Metropolis pt. 1, but the vocals alone just aren't going to happen.
