Backing up on the PS3

I want to clean up and restore my hard drive, and found out that I cannot back up my game data to an external drive. I know I can restore my purchased music from the playstation store later, but what about my band? Is anything stored online beside the stats? Will I need to start all over and unlock everything we have got so far?

I noticed you can't copy your Rock Band game data as it says it isn't allowed. :(

So If I want to upgrade my hard drive to a bigger one (the time is coming near), then I loose my game? That's outrageous.:confused::mad:

I would suggest an external HD as you lose nothing, and they are getting dirt cheap.

why the hell would they do this? this is the second ea game that i have for the ps3 that does not allow copying (the first being need for speed carbon). i really see no reason for this and a fix should be included in the patch to make les pauls work.

Nope - it's got a lock on it that prevents any copying. Pretty sad, but luckily we were just starting out. I guess we have to start over. Hopefully someone will fix this problem fast.

Hmm. I'll do some fiddling when I go home tonight and see if I can figure out a way to transfer the save off, it seems pretty ridiculous that you can't at least get your band data backed up. I'll post results if I find anything.

I ran into this same issue. Total BS. This really needs to be fixed. At least I was able to back up my GHIII save. Looks like maybe Activision did 1 thing right....

So has anyone tried backing up their entire HDD with game data and DLC onto an external HDD with the Backup Utility? Or has the only thing been tried so far is just trying to copy the save file onto a memory card? I'm also interested in if you can upgrade your hard drive, but don't have Rock Band so I need someone to be a guinea pig. ;)
