I just downloaded the 1.01 patch for RB2 on my PS3 and it fixes the problem with GHWT drum compatibility.
It's nice to be able to use drums in RB2 that work consistently and not having the green pad triggering whenever it feels like or having it select items randomly when not playing a song.

Any love for RB1? Seems how the games are nearly identical, I'd think that the patch would be equally identical. Or are we expected to buy RB2 to play RB1 songs with the GH:WT drums?

No. You are expected to buy RB2 and the license for RB1 songs on RB2 to play RB1 songs with the GH:WT drums. It also makes plenty of sense. They aren't goin gto continue to patch an obsolete version of the game unless it is a major bug (probably not even then).

If that's the case Harmonix will lose many customers in Europe. RB2 won't be released here any time soon.

On the contrary, it was just released in Europe for the 360, and should be coming for the PS3 soon. Now that they have all the distribution centres and such in place for the peripherals, the space between the NA and Europe releases for RB2 is much smaller.

Well, one would expect the same delay as in the US, which would result in the smart move of releasing it right before Xmas. However, if it would be coming out that soon, wouldn't you expect them to at least announce a date? According to Wikipedia, RB1 came out for both platforms at the same time, yet the PS3 version came out almost half a year later in Europe. So unfortunately the release of the 360 version doesn't have to mean a thing.

The time between won't be much shorter than before. Only the RB2 software has been released, the hardware will take some more weeks and the PS3-Version won't be released before March or April.

Well, that's great, I can't wait to play Run To The Hills on my GH Dr--oh, wait a second.

I dont suppose anyone has actually tried it yet? I've been messing around with it, and I gotta say, I suddenly wish I had my old pair of drums back, these are...completely worthless.
Oh, I was happy when the patch came out this morning, really, I couldnt wait to try it out, and I give Harmonix kudos for getting it out sooner then I expected.
But...the drums suck.
Here's m problem. I tried playing Maps on hard, it's a piece of cake for me, usually.
I 3 stared it. WTF?!
I noticed that it was whenever I had to hit the foot pedal, the yellow and blue notes, it would miss, whenever I needed to hit green notes alot, I'd miss, the blue notes seem to miss when I hit them repeatedly...the whole thing is just one giant mess.
And yes, I tuned the drums before I tried all this.
So now, I'm dissapointed. Not at you, Harmonix, you got basic compatibility working, so while velocity sensitive drums would have been nice, I can only mess around in freestyle for so long. I'm dissapointed that these drums, that are supposed to be more accurate and faithful to a real drumkit, are horrible. I will continue to try them out ,but in the end, I think I'm going to have to invest in the RB drums soon.

SonicGamer, I think there's some factors in there to take into account:
1. You're not used to playing RB2 with GHWT drums. For obvious reasons, this drum kit isn't the ideal for playing this game. Yes, I'm talking mainly about the yellow cymbal. Just having it raised will make playing some songs way more awkward than in RB drums. Try lowering the yellow cymbal to minumum height to remsembly the RB drum setup more closely, see if it works.
2. I think your drumset isn't correctly calibrated yet, because of what you said about missing a lot of notes. Here's a video of a guy playing RB2 with GHWT drums, and he seems to play just fine on them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4lAyHSDABM
And he says that the GHWT drums feel very comfortable on most RB songs, but not on all, obviously, because of the placement and height of the yellow cymbal, because in many RB songs, the second pad isn't charted as a cymbal at all, thus making the yellow cymbal hits more awkward. I think this would be obvious, you'll have to get used to it or buy a RB drumkit.
