View Full Version : DLC being copied by GH:WT... sigh....
It was bad enough to get 16 songs on GH:WT that were the exact same as on RB2
Now it appears the Guitar Zero is copy cat-ing the DLC.
Today: They are releasing " The Killers 3 Pack"
RB
Mr. Brightside
Smile Like You Mean It
Spaceman
GH
Mr. Brightside
Human
Losing Touch
However the guys on the other site are complaining
Mr. Brightside is missing from the track pack and you cant dowload seperate.
Neversoft/Activision really shows they cant think outside the box. They plan every move based on RB formula and now they they stoop so low as to offer the exact same DLC on the exact same week.
Sigh... when will it END.

One pack is copying?
I actually recall hearing about Guitar Hero releasing that pack before Rock Band announced it.

The GH pack sucks, Spaceman and Smile are better than the two songs that GH has in it's pack. That and the vocals are actually possible to sing on Rock Band's engine.

This should be in general, but while we're on the matter...
They're releasing "Human," "Losing Touch," and "Mr. Brightside" for GHWT. This isn't the first time a rhythm game has copied the other's tracklist and HMX is just as guilty of this as Activision/Neversoft. Look from both sides of the glass, mkay?

Sigh... when will it END.The publisher made a deal to deliver the content to both games, how is this a bad thing? How would RB2-only owners feel if they wanted the content and only GH:WT got it? It hurts not to have Death Magnetic on Rock Band, so I wouldn't wish that feeling on the other guy. Your post is childish.

I dont think of it being Childish...
I think of it as I paid good money for Both Games and seems each day it becomes more and more the same game because of the same songs being released.
You know what i Liked about the Corvette vs the Camaro and Trans AM.
The very fact that The Covette wasn't the same car as Camaro and the Trans Am.
Childish ? No.. concerned with Double Dipping Yes.

Yes because if a song is in one game it cannot appear in any other at any time.

You know the Chevrolet Celebrity/Oldsmobile Cutlass/Buick Century? They're all the same car. I had a Cutlass and I didn't want a Celebrity. It's not HMX's fault or Activision, it's your fault if you have the need to buy virtually the same thing for both games.
...and by the way he was a ghost the whole time.

OH NOES THEY RELEASE SOME OPTIONAL SONGS THAT THE OTHER PEOPLE PUT UP THE SAME DAY!
If anything HMX played off of Activision's plans on releasing DLC... Since Acti announced the Killers Pack weeks ago, and HMX had a killers pack ready too...

Probably because they wanted to wait until they had a new album to pimp out. And oh my, look at that... the same day that these packs go live just happens to be the same day the new album is released.
Don't blame Harmonix or Neversoft here... this falls squarely on the shoulders of the record label. Makes sense to put their eggs in both baskets if they wanna make more of a profit.

I actually like the RB pack a little better. I like "Spaceman" and "Smile Like You Mean It" more than "Human" and "Losing Touch". The drum charts for all of the songs are a lot of fun.

You're an idiot if you can't realize that the decision to release these packs and the timing was NOT one game publisher copying another. Ever think it could be to coincide with the Killers' new album release???

I'll all for making Guitar Hero look bad but they actually announced theirs first. Plus even if they didn't it was probably the Killers wanted their music on both games on the same day.

Well, since I only own one of the games, overlap doesn't bother me at all. Since I like the song "Mr Brightside" I would actually be a little upset if it was only released on GHWT. So, while you are upset that there are duplicate songs between the two games I am quite happy to get the songs I like for Rock Band regardless of what is released for GHWT.

I don't think anybody "copied" anybody. The Killers' people did the smart thing by getting song packs released on both games at the same time on their CD release day (or actually, the day after their CD release day). I'm not sure why everyone isn't doing this instead of this ridiculous exclusivity. What could be gained from exclusivity? You get more sales if you reach fans of both games.
I think the key is in the songs chosen. Guitar Hero, as usual, went for the big hit single of the moment and another song off the new album no one had heard before the album came out. GH fans are lucky they got Mr. Brightside and not a new album three-pack. I like the new album, but there is a trend in GH's DLC to have all new stuff (R.E.M. and Raconteurs DLC is all off their new albums). Not that the new stuff is bad, it's just RB went for what would be most fun for the format (Spaceman, which is a much better song for RB than Human, and two songs off Hot Fuss) while GH went for promotion again.

I think it's actually HMX who's is copying GHWT. The last weeks of DLC there has been some of the GHWT and GH3 songs (Closer, Dammit,Holiday in Cambodia)

Considering the months it takes to produce DLC, I think it's just what both games can get ahold of. Look at the setlists and the similarities.

Rival companies will copy each other because of buisness. i don't want to get technical, but you must understand that buisness is buisiness.

What's lost amidst all the bickering about who copied who(m) is the more salient point:
GHWT is releasing a THREE-pack of The Killers.
RB is releasing a Killers 3-pack, too -- PLUS a 3-pack of Yngwie, 2 Soundgardens, and 1 Lamb of God.
Next week, RB will release another 9-10 songs, maybe even a whole album.
Next week, GHWT will (*maybe*) release another 3-pack.
And so it goes.

Look at Guitar Hero: World Tour as if it's in Rock band 1's position, because it is.
No DLC database, peripheral issues...

It's possible to sing on GHWT. It's just not so possible to actually get 100%.
Who cares if both games are getting The Killers and both games are getting one of the same song this week? Not everyone owns both games. And if they do, I'm sure they'll just purchase the songs for whichever game they like better.

I don't think some people get why we're starting to see duplicate songs in our rhythm games...
It takes an agreement between the gamemakers and the license holders to get the rights to songs. So what likely happens is the gamemakers approach the license holders with a list of songs they'd like to use.
The license holders than workout the agreement spelling out which songs they can use.
Which means: That they will likely get similiar songs...since it will be easier to license some comparred to others.

simple solution. Buy one or the other 'games' and be grateful with what you have, instead of being a greedy **** and then complaining that you end up with duplicate songs.
How can anyone feel sympathy for that ..

I hardly think that one pack (in which one song out of three is actually the same) constitutes copying.
And if I recall, the Guitar Hero pack was announced first anyway.

Another thing I thought of, for the OP - The Killers' new CD is out this week. They easily could've intentionally signed deals with both to release DLC this week just to try to get more sales of their CD. After all, if people hear more of their songs they might get more interested in them as a band and might want to buy their CD.
It's actually an incredibly smart thing of them to do.

One less pack I need to buy for each game, works for me.
I seriously can't figure out what people see in this band. That Mr Brightside song is in heavy rotation on the muzak system in the store I work at... I hear it 3 or 4 times every day. I'd rather listen to Nickelback.

People have this magical thing called their own taste in music. It's the reason why some people like some things and not others. It's not a very new concept.

You know.. if RB really wanted to put the final nail in the coffin of GH, they would just release DLC of all of GH's song libraries.
The fact that GH4 had half the songs in RB already actually kept me from purchasing it. I didn't NEED those songs (Although no Van Halen in RB causes me daily pain).
Which makes me happy, because I tried the GH4 demo, and their engine blows.
