View Full Version : Received a Replacement Guitar?

As with just about everyone in the Rock Band world, my guitar is going out. Before I send it in to be replaced, I wanted to find out if anyone had received their replacement guitar yet, and if so... do you foresee it lasting more than 3-6 hours? (Or did it last that long?)
I'll be sending the guitar in eventually, but I wanted to hold off if they're just going to send me a replacement version of the already crappy guitar I have.

I did the warranty thing on wednesday, still haven't heard anything and the tracking number shows nothing.
In the mean time, I fixed my guitar.

I ordered my new one Wednesday night, 2-day shipping, I know it won't have shipped out Wed. cos I ordered it at night, Thur. was Thanksgiving and I don't think there is post on that day...
So I'm expecting it on Monday or Tuesday.
I don't even care if I get it at this point, I'm just suspicious about this "$100.00 (pending)" in my account, if I get charged for it I'm gonna be pissed.
I would open it up and fix it but I don't want to void the warranty. Don't want to burn my bridges.

The new guitars will likely ship on Monday, since UPS has been on vacation since Wednesday. They will keep a $100 pending charge on your account until they receive your returned guitar, I would guess.

Does anyone know if the $100 charge stays as pending or does it actually get charged? If I'm going to have to shell out $100 to get a replacement and then wait to get the money back I'm gonna be pretty pissed off. I can understand the fact that the damn guitar is going out since it's a new design and probably manufactured by a different company than the GH controllers, but this is seriously messed up if they expect us to pay for a replacement and then wait for a refund.

They put a hold on the money, they don't actually charge it. Once they receive your broken guitar in the mail, they take the hold off the money. The hold is just collateral so you don't make off with two guitars for free.

Does anyone know how long it takes to recieve the confirmation email. I filled out the troubleshooting questionaire and have my tracking and rma numbers but lack a confirmaiton email. Several hours have passed and i would think an automated response would have been sent right after i finished the warantee questionaire? Any help appreciated

I don't think anyone has received one yet. I was told on the phone that the confirmation email would be sent when the item actually ships.

I went to the warranty page and requested a new guitar on Tuesday morning (the same day I got the game and found out I was sold a broken guitar). I haven't recieved a replacement (although some people are saying UPS is taking a 5-day weekend, I don't know where they're getting this info) or a confirmation e-mail or anything. All UPS's website says is "Billing Information Recieved", but it's said that since Tuesday. Hopefully Monday things will get rolling again, but until then this is very frustrating.

UPS hasn't made deliveries (except for overnights) since Wednesday. EA probably needed a couple days to get the shipments rolling. And this marks the 100th time I have posted this information. Hooray.

Admanimal, you seem to have an answer for everything. You are in every thread with a sympathy for the EA & Harmonix over this hardware fiasco. If my hardware worked I would be playing right now instead I am pissed and on the forums. How much are they paying you to be their spin doctor? Or is yor life so pitiful that this is more entertaining than actually playing your game?
The companies need to hear this negative stuff so that their product continue to get better. HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE!

It's easy to have an answer for everything when "everything" encompasses the same two questions over and over in a dozen threads. :D

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.
Unfortunately we cannot process any returns or exchanges for our Canadian customers due to the game not being released in Canada as of yet.

Why should it matter where in the world that you live?
What kind of attitude is that for a company to take? What if I received it as a gift? Why should it matter WHERE you live if it's broken and under warranty?

Do Canadians usually get support from EA in the U.S. or is there an EA Canada that you contact? I'm guessing when the game is released in Canada, replacement hardware will ship from inside Canada. There are some practical issues with shipping across the border that would slow things down for everyone involved if Canadians could get replacements from the U.S..

No idea on a video game. Besides, that funny pink page that came with the game that said to go to the support.ea.com page is written in french on the other side, which I would assume would not only be for the french speaking americans, but french canadians as well.

I've posted this elsewhere, but trying to be helpful...
Ordered replacement guitar Friday.
Arrived Monday.
Haven't had a chance to play it yet, but all the numbers printed on the box appear to be the same. There is a small white sticker on the guitar box, which has a slightly different number. When I get home tonight, I'll update with the specific info.
I'm planning on wailing on this thing tonight to see how it holds up....
EDIT: Never got any email, except confirmation that I'd signed up with EA's website.

Please keep us informed on the status of your replacement guitar, as well as its functionality. As we speak, a class action law suit is being drafted over this case and will be filed on January 20th, the day after launch day warranties expire. Hopefully the papers will be scrapped in the event a redesign takes place; however, should replacement guitars have the same problem our case will be infallible.

Home now - here's the updated info:
I had actually ordered TWO replacement guitars, as I bought two bundles and both strummers died. Only one was delivered Monday. The other currently says "Billing Info Received", though they were requested within 5 minutes of one another.
Both new and old guitar boxes are marked as follows:
159119
XBOX 360
ROCK BAND WIRED GUITAR
(822152)
Old Stickers: 28607CT, 27607CT
New Sticker: 27507CT
I'll update again when I've had time to play with this new guitar. Strummer feels about the same, but has a little clickiness to it - perhaps the plastic microswitches...?
PS - I'm located in Kansas City.

How much clickiness are we talking here? Is it anything like the guitar hero clickiness. I hope not, I was happy that it was gone.

Not much. Noticeable compared to the almost-silence of the one on the old (broken) guitar, but it's nowhere near that terrible CLACK CLACK CLACK of the GH controller.
I imagine that I'd barely notice it over the game, honestly. Still haven't had the chance to play, but I'm going to try to at least get a few songs in before bed so I have something to report...
EDIT: Yeah, I'm going to say it's all but nonexistent, unless you've got a quiet room and are listening for it.

Its a bit early for a lawsuit. I know that people have spent almost $200 and that is a lot of money for some people. I want to know that my replacement instruments aren't going to be more of the same crap. What happens when 60 days are up?? I bought the extended 15 month warranty for $3 from toys r us, so maybe that will be ok, but for others, they have to shell out another $100+ for a working instrument??
I really hope EA redesigns these things. Kinda sucks walking on eggshells(or playing on eggshells) worrying that the thing is going to break. The insides of these instruments are just sad. I wish they charged another $10 and put a couple pieces of real metal here and there.

**Update**
New guitar seems like it has a tiny bit of "dead space" in the middle of the strum bar, like I've seen some others describing. I thought it felt like it wasn't as sensitive as the older guitar, but then when doing a side-by-side comparison in the menus (I "fixed" the older one) they feel about the same, I guess.
Contemplating opening this new one up, to see if it is indeed the other model...
Of course, this is all pretty pointless until about a week from now. My old ones each took 3-4 days of heavy play to stop strumming, and I now don't have a nice holiday weekend to play all day.
I imagine more people will have gotten theirs by the time mine have gotten to their potential breakage point - I'm sure if there's still a problem, we'll start seeing it emerge pretty quickly again...

Does there seem to be something shaking around inside the guitar like a rattling? Currently my guitar works fine, but there's an annoying rattling sound inside of it.

the rattling sound is the overdrive thing, I believe its just little ball bearings that move inside of the sensor and make the connection when you tilt the guitar upward.

I've been led to believe this is simply the tilt sensor. All 3 Strats I've touched now have had the same rattle inside, which sounds like it's moving between two fixed positions. Seems like a pretty reasonable theory, I'd say.
If you've got a loose, random rattle.... well... that's bad.

Like most everyone else, my strum bar failed hard. I asked for my replacement relatively late (on Saturday the 24th).
I never received the conformation email, but I copied down the numbers.
Like a lot of people, the UPS tracking number says that the billing information was received.
So I checked the EA support page (http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/rockband.php). I logged in, and it said I had 1 question.
Subject is "Trouble shooting incident" and it was last updated on the 26th. The status says that "Parts Shipped", but I've yet receive anything at all.
I just wanted to know what everyone else's said so I could compare. Hopefully it means the guitar was shipped out on Monday and I'll receive it Wednesday, but I'm not that optimistic.

Hmm..I ordered mine Tuesday (the day it came out) and the UPS thing is the same, but on the EA site, my status shows NEW RMA. I wonder if that means, despite 15 phone calls in which customer service said it's been shipped, that it really hasn't shipped.
