View Full Version : How long will Guitar Hero go?

Guitar Hero has had 4 games so far. Is Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock the last Guitar Hero game we will ever see. Or will we see Guitar Hero 8 someday. Or even RB may just kill the Guitar Hero franchise forever.

So how long do you think it will go?

With Activision at the helm I imagin in a few years we'll be up to Guitar Hero 17 starring Bam Margera with note charts that are nothing but alternating 4 finger power chords. (and ofcourse all in mono)

There's gonna be a Guitar Hero 4...Aerosmith went mad at IGN and said GH4 would be Aerosmith themed.

If Rock Band doesn't stop the GH Series in its tracks after GH4, expect Activision to start pumping out the Slash's Pro Guitarist Series (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a35/Quinarvy/Slash.jpg) each containing more and more real life rockers and walking around, posting band fliers around town, and spray painting walls with your logo.

Or they may decide to do a full Guitar Hero featuring only expert boss battles against Jesus on the full Dragonforce catalog.

I'd buy it for a good, many, laughs.

But no, really, future GH's will end up being like this (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/828/828761p1.html)

If it continues to sell, I doubt they will stop making them. As long as bands are on board to allow their music to be in the game, there is no real reason not to do it.

id say at least 2 or 3 under the guitar hero banner, maybe then shifting over to something similar to rock band?

1 more, because of Aerosmith. Activision said they wanted to evolve the GH series with more stuff (more instruments) so yea.

They also copyrighted GuitarVillain, Drum Hero and Drum Villian--and Rock Band's success only is going to push that....

Did anyone else hear a rumor I heard about Guitar Freaks, Drum Mania and Keyboard Mania coming stateside since Konami is paying attention to Rock Band---part of me hopes so but the other part of me says they better step it up a notch and evolve those series so they are on the same visual level of quality as RB and GH----just look at the launch fo Beatmania and you will know what I mean--not enough coverage, too difficult of a game and visuals that could be done on a super NES.

I also wish Taiko Drum Master would pick up more here--I know, near impossible but one can dream!

No Guitar Freaks is not coming stateside...

Konami is trying to sue Harmonix for violating copyright patents with Guitar Hero however

There'll probably be one more, but not for a while since they have DLC.

The Scorehero DuDeZ will love it!

They may make a few more, but I see them making at least one more. There's obviously a fanbase out there that is completely against Rock Band, and will give Guitar Hero the leverage it needs to stay in the scene for a bit longer. But I think the future belongs to Rockband, for the obvious reasons - encompassing 3 instruments, and co-operating with a group as well as versus. Although I love Guitar Hero III's Gibson SO much more than Rock Band's Fender.

I'm curious though - with music games getting more popular, will they reach out to more genres than just rock? Rap? Country? Classical? It'd be interesting to see what the future holds (I'd like a vocal game with country music... I love most, if not all, genres of music).

I said 7 more, and if you're smart you'll know why I said it.

The guitar hero franchise won't die any time soon.

TAIKO! I bought that when it first came out and the spare drum.:) Two player on that game was great. Even little kids can play on easy, but put it in ONI mode and it was way too hard for me. They have something like 15 versions in Japan but we only got the one.:(

GH is Activision's cash cow and they aren't going to give it up anytime soon. I wouldn't be suprised if they went different genres with it though. (Think "Guitar Slinger" for the country/new country set.)

Activision is gonna run it into the ground like the Tony Hawk games... imo When I say "run it into the ground" I mean GH3, GH4, GH Underground and so on... lol just GH with a new number next to it.

I'm still waiting for the version where you get to experience the aftermath of fame - drugs, hookers, public humiliation, and attempting to keep the band together by a thread. I think it was depicted in an old strip from Ctrl+Alt+Del.

While all of us are playing Rock Band 3, the little kiddies can keep playing GH9 for eternity for all I care. I'm seriously never buying another GH game again (renting FTW).

EDIT: Post Number 200!!

It is? Not judging by these forums it's not. The GHIII guitar works great, but people seem to be having no end of problems with the RB instruments.

Also GHIII is selling very well.

Yeah, GH3 is selling well. I like rock band 50 times more than guitar hero 3, but I just made a lot of money off activision's sales announcement today.

Yea, what the heck are "Villain" games? Really, I can't think of a reason to change the name unless they somehow change the gameplay...

And watch the Drum end up being an exact copy of the RB drum, then who gets to say who's copying who?

Woah... down boy, down!

I think the point was more the fact that Activision/Neversoft will milk the hell out of the GH franchise just as they've done with the Tony Hawk franchise. Yeah, I fully expect more gimmicky BS - battle mode in GH3 is just the beginning, and it's crap (IMO) - and more 'features' that aren't really features but ways they can claim they're 'expanding' the series.

Don't be surprised if we see a new "Nail the Whammy" function coming. :P
