I opened my Strat up to fix the no downstrumming issue, and I found another possible fix. There was tons of dried glue all over the insides of my Stratocaster. Some of it may have been keeping wires in place, but the rest of it was messing with my contacts. All I had to do was clean it out with a pair of tweezers, and now my guitar is working perfectly.
This may have been an isolated case, but if you've got no results any other way, this might work.
