On Tuesday, after getting my Rock Band, I found a faulty guitar. I went to the support page to request a replacement, and it was easy to fill out. Upon reading the options, it stated that if I wanted to get a replacement guitar sent to me first, then it would take a "small pre-authorization fee" from a credit card or debit card. It didn't state how much, and I'm familiar with these type of small holding fees to verify credit cards, (usually under $2). It also stated if I did not return the other guitar within 28 days, I would be charged $20 + cost of replacement of the guitar. It didn't state the price of the guitar.
Now, as I go back to the same page, it looks as if they have changed the wording of their page. Now it says it will take a pre-authorization fee of $100.00 !!! It also states they can withhold those funds for up to 30 days !
I certainly hope this is not true, because taking $100 from an account and holding it for 30 days is far from a "small pre-authorization fee".
I certainly hope I am wrong in thinking I received a product that was known to be defective, then told not to take it back to the store, and, oh, by the way, we want another $100. Oh, but don't worry. We'll give it back after Christmas...

I didn't see anything about a $100 pre-authorization fee. It did say that there would be a $125 charge if the defective guitar wasn't returned.
Do you have a 360 or PS3? Maybe there are support differences? I have a 360.

They do hold the $100 but most likely it is just "up to" 30 days- they will remove the hold when they receive your old guitar.

I have a 360 as well. I believe they have changed the wording in the last couple of days. I could speculate as to why, but it isn't important, and it wouldn't be fact.
I understand that the 'up to' 30 days will be removed once they receive the funds.
My problem is the difference between a small pre-authorization hold and $100. Personally, I cannot afford that, and if knowing that it would be an amount that large, I would have chosen the other route.

You could try calling them up and explaining the situation and the wording that was there when you put in your request. The people I have talked to on the phone so far have been pleasant.

I have tried to look for the number and know I have seen it around, but couldn't find it when I searched specifically for it earlier.
Do you happen to have a link handy to the number? Thanks.

I just noticed that there is a pending $100 charge on my account for this. So, there you go, there is definitely a $100 pre-authorization.

You know what Blame this on all those people saying "if you want an Extra guitar or Bass pedal, just tell them yours is bad and they will send you a second one and you just keep both and pay the fee"....... this is your fault they are now charging $100 up front until they get there defect back.
ill say I called my guitar in on the 20th by about 10AM and as of today there is no $100 charge and i hope there wont be

Yeah, cause it wasn't Thanksgiving or the weekend or anything. :p No mods or admins are on these boards on the weekends. You should hear something hopefully on Monday. If it hits Tuesday and you don't hear anything then people have a right to be upset.

While I agree, it's a holiday weekend, I don't agree with a company releasing a big product like this and then not having immediate support. This should have been taken into consideration.
If the first wave of people who signed up for the small pre authorization fee are hit with $100 withdrawals from their account, I can imagine I won't be the only one pissed off.
Apparently they had time between turkey and stuffing to change their wording from 'small pre authorization fee' to large holding of funds, then not bother to email those that have already agreed to a small fee with regards to the change of wording.
