I think the first one. Instant classic. I'm refering to episode IV obviously.

BTW, I'm not counting the new one that came out this year. That doesn't even deserve recognition.

no movie ever made will ever touch 'the empire strikes back'

original cut.

Fact: Episode IV owns all movies period.

Which did you like better? "Jedi" or "The Empire Strikes Back?"

Dante Hicks:
"Empire."

Randal Graves:
Blasphemy.

Dante Hicks:
"Empire" had the better ending. Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader is his father, uh, Han gets frozen, taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

Empire Strikes Back was brilliant.

Watching any of Episodes 1-3 makes my head hurt.

Whenever I have Thanksgiving at my dad's house. We would get a lot of junk food and watch all 6 episodes of Star Wars in a row.

Good times.

Best. Clerks. Quote. Ever.

Seriously though, it was that quote that gave me more inspiration to watch the movie

Episodes 1-3 really sucked, they don't even deserve any recognition either. First one had a race, a war, Jar Jar, Lian Nielson. Second one had Anakin training, bunch of clones. Third one, Anakin kills some kids, gets dipped in lava, and Darth Vader. Thats all I really noticed from them, nothing too special...

For me, IV is the best. 5 was boring until they introduced Lando. 6 was Muppet paradise.

Lian Nielson.

Liam Neeson. A wonderful actor.

I like them all, but Empire is first for me. Attack of the Clones is second, though. Despite the (often) really corny dialog, that story wrapped up and restarted so many different storylines that they're still putting out Clone Wars novels.

Empire is just too epic to be overcome by a prequel though.

Empire was the darkest and the best. IMO

Empire by far. One of the best 'middle chapters' of a trilogy I know.

Empire Strikes Back was brilliant.

Watching any of Episodes 1-3 makes my head hurt.

Empire was probably the best overall, though Jedi had a lot more Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious, who is my favorite character in the Star Wars movies. This is mostly because Ian McDiarmid is probably the only great actor (besides maybe Alec Guinness) to overcome some of the bad dialogue and directing of George Lucas, but also because he is a wonderfully understated Sith bad-ass.
Anyway, Empire is best because it's the darkest. Star Wars is a series of movies about, well, war (duh). War is an inherently dark subject. Therefore, the drama and excitement of Star Wars works best when you really feel that sense of an overwhelming threat that must be defeated. That's what we got in Empire.

Now, I understand some of the hate for the prequels, but I think people are too hard on them. I love Star Wars a lot, but they are just movies, and it is George Lucas' franchise. So I just tried to focus on the good in the prequels. The first one had Qui-Gonn and some cool lightsaber fights. The second one had some cool foreshadowing and Yoda kicking ass. The third, despite some bad dialogue and acting, I thought was pretty good. The aforementioned darkness was present, which helped a lot. Plus, it added a whole new dimension to the character of Darth Vader. Some people didn't like this, but I like it when a character has depth. If Darth Vader is just a merciless killing machine, then his redemption at the end of Jedi doesn't really make any sense. There has to be a beating heart under all that machinery, and I think the prequels, if nothing else, helped us understand that.

Empire Strikes Back.

Who else deduced that Darth Sidious = Emperor Palpatine when Episode I came out? I mean, it's like a no-brainer now, but I was 13 back then lol.

Episode III: Backstroke of the West (http://winterson.com/2005/06/episode-iii-backstroke-of-west.html) was the best.

THAT IS AWESOME. I'll have to bookmark it for another time since it's so long~

Empire is first, and I would put Revenge of the Sith second.

So I am the only person on the planet that thinks II is the best? I love all of the references to Episodes IV, V, and VI in it. Also seeing the Emporers plan unveiling is fun. Plus Padme. Yeah I said it, shes freaking hot in that movie.

Also, I watched all 6 of the movies over the last week as they were aired on Spike. Has anyone else noticed at the very end of Episode VI that Luke's vision of Yoda, Obi Won, and Aniken has been changed from the original? The old Aniken was replaced by Hayden Christinsen. Kinda wierd, kinda cool.

I don't understand all of the hate for the prequels, Sure they may not have had the best acting in the world, but who cares ? It gave insight to the character Darth Vader.

IMO, Jedi > Sith > Clones > Empire > Hope > Phantom.

Obvious Fan here. And do not HATE the prequels, guess I'm the ultimate fanboy but for me it goes..

Empire
Sith
A new Hope
Clones
Menace
Jedi

Yes I rate the prequels above Jedi.

Empire. Seriously the Empire is badass. Darth Vader should have killed Luke though.

I just wonder, what DID happen to the independent contractors working on the new Death Star in "Return Of The Jedi"?

Prequels are ... OK, and I might watch them every once in a while.

Empire is tops though. I remember being the only kid in theater back in the day rooting for Vader to whoop Luke, and the moment of stunned silence when we heard "No Luke, I am your father!". Classic.

Episodes IV throug VI are all very near and dear to my heart. If I have to pick one now, I have to say A New Hope just because it's the one that started it all. But ask me again tomorrow and I'll probably say Empire Strikes Back and the day after that Return of the Jedi. It's just to difficult to pick just one.

As for the prequels.....meh!! I mean I went to movie theater I purchased the dvds but, what can I tell you that you don't already know about them, they where a disapointment.

Empire is my favorite with Jedi coming in second.

If i had to rate them, it would go
empire>jedi>new hope>sith>clones>menace.
Thats not to say i dislike eps 1-3, i just prefer 4-6.

Well, you're not the only person who likes it. I like it a great deal, it's just not as good as III.

If I ranked them in order, it'd be: III>VI>II>IV>V>I.

Yeah, I said it. Empire Strikes Back is seriously overrated. There's nothing in it that isn't done better in the other movies.
