Playing with the control pad?

Hey guys,

on Guitar Hero, my friend and I play coop a lot. I play with the guitar and he's plays on the control pad. While it's not ideal, he's actually gotten really good at it. As I'm planning on trading in GH2 for Rock Band with the drum set, I was wondering:

Can you still play guitar with the control pad? Or do you have to use the guitar controller while the pad is reserved for vocalists?

You have to use a guitar. The regular controller is just for the vocalist's menus.

Really? Well, that sucks...

Making me choose between playing with my friend and spending the extra money to keep both the instraments or getting it cheaper. Damn you, HARMONIX!
