Unlocking songs--how to?

Been playing for a couple days and love it. Is there a list of how to/where to unlock songs? Do the songs become unlocked by city? I ask because I'm looking forward to playing some of the songs that aren't available to me in Chicago, Boston, and NYC.

I don't want to use the cheat code--rather earn my way to those songs.

Just go and play through the bonus songs tour on any tour.

EDIT thought we were talking about the bonus tracks...now I feel even more stupid!

Beating songs on solo mode (any of the solo modes) will unlock songs for play.

The different instruments have different song hierarchies, so for example: it is possible to quickly reach songs via microphone that might take you a long time to reach on drums

I've found it's easiest to unlock things in solo tour. My wife and I started BWT and played garbage and weezer about 10 times before we started unlocking stuff.
