Name the newly discovered bands you're now listening to thanks to Rock Band.

Mine are:

The Mother Hips (found Time We Had at eMusic...the whole album, Kiss The Krystal Flake is incredible!)
Freezepop
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
OK Go (yeah, i know they've been around, but never really listened to them)

iTunes and eMusic have Rock Band to thank. :)

Nothing really. I thank GH II for getting me in to Bang Camaro though.

Ok Go as well.

Oh, and definitely GH2 for Bang Camaro. Those guys wail. All 20 of them :)

...an entire genre of music I don't normally listen to. I listen to country mainly and playing this game has me seriously considering widening my cd/download library.

I have not listened to rock in years and now it is all I listen to again. THANK YOU ROCK GAMES. Also pearl should thank you since I used to play guitar a few years back and I am getting a drum set to learn how to really play these songs.

I wasn't really fond of Coheed & Cambria, but after playing Welcome Home(effing awesome song), I might start looking into more of their stuff.

That band that does Nightmares is pretty sweet too...the name eludes me atm.

Coheed and Cambria, actually.

A friend of mine introduced them to me months ago and they didn't really take, but I've heard Welcome Home enough now that it's really grown on me.

GH2 hooked me on Bang Camaro. I bought the album and haven't regretted it.

RB got me into Coheed & Cambria; I love mixed media concept work, no matter how pretentious. :)

Nightmares was done by Crooked X... it's great stuff. And it's PLAYABLE, with a simple but satisfying chord structure compared to some of the more hideous strum repeaters in the game.

GH2 was Bang Camaro... immediately went out and bought their album after playing Push Push (Lady Lightning).

Rock Band introduced me to Queens of The Stone Age. I'd heard of them, but I'd never really listened to them.

Great thread. Fantastic idea for a thread, actually. Well done! Echoes exactly what I was saying weeks ago about diversity in the music choices, and how much I appreciate the choices Harmonix made by *not* putting blinders on and making the game just about one music genre.

The post about the country-music fan who is getting into Rock now? Priceless!

I think I'll have to put down Coheed and Cambria for this one. I'd heard of them, but never really given them a listen, and after giving them a listen went on to learn more about their mixed-media style, etc.

My wife's answer is the Ya Ya Ya's. She'd never heard Maps, and she really likes it.

I haven't heard a "dog" on the entire game, though. There is not a single song that I do not like, at the end of the day, even if they're from genres that I normally don't listen to.

There is one song I hate playing...Dead on Arrival. It's not just because it's Fallout Boy either...the entire song just seems offbeat and terrible...on every instrument!

Gh1: Acro-Brats and Shaimus
Gh2: Foo Fighters Rage Aginst the Machine
Gh3: Weezer, AFI
RB: None yet..but

Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, and Foo Fighters. Easily three of the best songs on the disc IMO.

Mmmm...no one really. I knew most of these bands minus Crooked X but they didn't really impress. Certainly there were bands I knew and finally was forced to sit down and listen (Coheed and Cambria, Radiohead), bands I reacquanted with (Garbage how I missed thee), but that's it.

Well then again there is Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld if that counts.

Anyone who says Freezepop, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bang Camaro, Queens of the Stone Age, Anarchy Club or Honest Bob I pity thee.

I think he means because you should have known them prior to Rock Band.

Well GHII introduced me to this kind of music. (Rock, and Metal)

FreQuency: Freezepop
Amplitude: David Bowie (Weird huh?), Garbage
None really for the Guitar Hero games or Rock Band. However there were a few songs that I got into thanks to the games. "Hush" by Deep Purple comes to mind.

Yeah Harmonix really pushed me to dig into rock more than ever.

I'm black and unfortunately most people don't see blacks as "rock material" so I was never exposed to much rock. I kind of had to look for myself and my family (for the most part) hates rock like I hate hip-hop.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs I'd heard of them but never heard them. Their song on RockBand is great and very catchy, thinking about checking out more of their stuff.

Nick Zinner from the YYYs makes terrible remixes though.

Well your highness, is there anything we can get you? :)

What's that supposed to mean? Because I said these bands pwn and everyone should know them? Genius.

Actually, I knew about Freezepop thanks to GH II (and wondered why we were playing synth with our guitars). I've heard about many of these bands since I live in Atlanta and a new music radio station we have here called 99x along with a Georgia Tech Radio station called Album 88.

It's funny...I'll bring up bands with friends up north or on the west coast and they'll have no idea who I'm talking about because I take it for granted that since 99x is playing it here, it must be everywhere.

99x played Starlight by Muse along with Supermassive Black Hole every day. The funny thing is, I didn't know it was Muse because of their habit of not calling back.

I saw The New Pornographers in concert about three weeks ago and have all their albums...I'm thrilled Electric Version made it on the play list.

It makes me happy when smaller bands get the recognition they deserve.

Oh no. Just meant everyone should know them. God knows how many times people here introduced me to obvious bands/song and I was like "Duhr!"

I wasn't trying to sound all knowing or anything if that's how you took it.

GH1: Honest Bob, Freezepop.
GH2: Bang Camaro, The Living End,
GH3: Weezer (in a way. My friend pointed out that they were in GH3. I haven't actually played it yet)
RB: New Pornographers.

I only have the songs were in the games, aside from Weezer.

I think everyone should really take a look into more of The New Pornographers. I was introduced to their music about 3 years ago, and they've got 4 awesome albums - you really can't go wrong with which ever you pick up. Though my suggestion is "Twin Cinemas" to start ;)

For me, I'd have to say it's "Gimme Shelter." I know who the Rolling Stones are, and heard some of their more popular songs, but this one had slipped under my radar. Really digging it - guitar, drums, vocals.

Rock band has not introduced me to a single thing I didn't already know

Or at least it hasn't introduced me to anything I like that I didn't know about before

Though it introduced me to the fact that metallica has some better songs than I thought (And justice for all)

But thats just 1 song by a band I already knew existed and already knew half of their songs XD

These games have really re-introduced me to some great classic songs and have made me appreciate the music in a whole new way. It's been a long time since I've heard many of these song I grew up with. And thanks for making most of them original tracks. Many of these song just would not be the same without it.

As far as favorite new band I never heard(and I'm sure I will get flamed for saying it)... VAGIANT!
OK, admittedly not a technical masterpiece, but it sure is a lot of fun to play and if you have a female singer that much better. It's a fun song and that's what this experience is all about.
