View Full Version : Drumming... too easy?

So, I started off playing Rock Band drums on 'hard' difficult and took it from there....

After opening up Stockholm, I decided to go back and try some songs on the 'expert' difficulty in quick-play.

Even though the songs on expert (except for Weezer and Garbage) are severely kicking my butt... as I do the sections over and over in practice mode... I can't help but feel that the timing allowance is too liberal.

Half the time I hit the kick (and not the snare or cymbal or something) the game will play the full percussion sound on time. That isnt' really giving me the feedback I need to learn. Musicians use audio clues to learn where/when they make a mistake.... I would rather hear each and every timing and omission error I make.

Also, some times that my timing is slightly off (like 16th beats) it will cut off part of the sound of the drum, making it hard for me to tell how early/late I was.

I realize that my complains are limitations that are necessary to make this game a *game* and not a drumming simulator..... maybe I'd be happier playing an electronic drum kit instead of the game? :-/

it's more a technical issue. with the limited number of pads available and the fact that the RB kit *isn't* a full blown electronic kit, the game can't simply use the kit strictly as a trigger for single-time playbacks of an individual sound for each pad and have it sound right. Instead, it's more that the game is playing the master percussion track for the song but making some modifications based on how well you're hitting the pads. This will inevitably lead to some oddness if you pay enough attention, because it's really hard to do it flawlessly.
