Maybe, with the exception of those vocals (admittedly, Geddy is very hard to imitate for most male voices). I'd say when I saw Flaming Lips they covered Floyd's "Breathe"

Exactly. Did I ask for Primus covering Rush? Nope. As a big fan, I can admit that he doesn't have the most conventional voice. Ever hear him cover Pink Floyd? Not so good on the vocals.

a cover is not about immitating the band to a tea, a good cover is turning their song into a song of ur own. and this is perfect!

and theyre a band. its not 'him' and yes ive heard them cover floyd, and its awesome. seen em play in the flesh live in detroit, was amazing.

Getting down to semantics now? When the band Primus performs, he is covering the vocals of Pink Floyd, no? It's my opinion that these vocals sound like crap, just like when Primus covered Have a Cigar. I won't dwindle another thread into bickering with you, so I'm done and will ignore you for the future.

I'd say a good cover is one that tends to make people forget it's a cover.

Such as Train Kept A Rollin', Summertime Blues, and (Ghost) Riders in the Sky.

Which bands do you think of when you think of those songs? Probably not the original artists. :D

I disagree, Tool covering Demon Cleanor and Tool doing Vacant that was originally written by Trent with the tapeworm project. The Doors doing who do you love is great also. Also nirvana doing The End/Waffle house theme cracks me up.

His voice is not so good for the mellow sound Radioheads songs are aimed for.

The piano is played way too energetically as well

I expect artists to throw in their own style when performing someone else's song and they did that.

I don't think it should be a 100% duplicate attempt of the original recording. (that's what cover bands are suppose to do)

But the composition, the way Radiohead makes their songs...

They are MADE to be played softly

exactly dude. unless ur a coverband then you should be turning the cover into a song of ur own. like hawk said, your not supposed to know theyre covering a song when theyre playing it.

Since when were you a muscian

I'm friends with a couple people in a band and I play and instrument myself.

My good friend is in a Radiohead and Joy Division cover band. My friend (The bassist) was argueing with a guy at his show about another band who had covered Fake Plastic Trees similar to the way PATD covered Karma Police.

saying
"Yes to give the song a unique sound to your band is ok. But to completely ignore the tone and feel the song is aimed for is just completely ******ed.

Take this song for example it's totally cool to change the tuning, mess around with non falsetto vocals play the song with instruments other than what the song intended to... but to change that feel the song was written for just completely ignores the fact your "honoring" that band"

Both songs show their ability to not just cover the song but also personalize it, I think both these versions are better than the originals.

LOL That's hilarious. It's not good by any means, Les Claypool is not meant to sing like Geddy Lee, but it's pretty awesome especially for the time.

I don't think Ozzy doing Black Sabbath gets to count as a cover.

Unless you also want to include Rob Halford touring solo and playing setlists composed of about 70% Judas Priest songs.
