View Full Version : For those who have used the GHWT drums; are they worth it?

I realize there is nowhere I can go to get a completely unbiased answer. If I go to the Guitar Hero forums, the obvious answer would be yes, and vice versa here. But I like these forums a lot more than I like theirs, so here we are.
I own an ION drum rocker. I love the kit, and use it with GH. I can use the cymbals as well. There are quite a few problems using the ION, though.
1. Star power activation. It can be very annoying. For example, in 1979, I have a perfect streak, and the only way to activate SP is to hit the blue and yellow simultaneously. In a constant streak in a song like 1979, this will undoubtedly break my streak.
Along with that, in many songs, the game actually requires you to hit blue and yellow alternations. You'd be surprised how often the game reads this as a star power activation.
2. Charts. Some of the things you are asked to do on a RB kit are very awkward.
3. The most obvious one... by using a RB kit, I am not getting the full chart. The yellow has to be a hi-hat, and the blue almost always has to be a cymbal. The green is always a tom. I don't get access to the most realistic version of the chart.
So, I'm simply wondering that if I should consider the GH drums in my predicament.

Personally, I don't think its worth spending more money when you already have the ION, it might make it work better for World Tour, but no point unless you absolutely need it.

True. Obviously, I wouldn't be asking this if I didn't have money to burn... but that money can be wasted in so many other ways :)
How expensive are they?

Can you even buy the GHWT drums separately yet?
If you've got the money to burn, I'd say go for it. Each game is designed around it's own kit.
The charting/realism issue goes both ways. I was messing around with Rock Revolution (shut up) and using the GHWT drums with it, and you have the same problem with a cymbal in the game not being a cymbal on the kit. It just feels wrong.

I think it's still only available in the complete kit. So you'd want to take that into consideration. But I agree with the above, if you've already got the ION kit, I doubt you'd find better to play any of these games with.
Speaking of which, how are the ION drums? are they very loud? I was considering getting them.
