It starts this Friday, who can give some insights on this film? Do you think it will be good?
And yes I know it stars Keanu Reeves, the movie can be ok even with the guy in it right?

Well he never seems human to me, so this role is perfect.

I don't mind remakes, I just look at them as separate movies with the same title.
And every preview I see makes my opinion of this newer one increase.

Same, the ovrall story isnt there, but the special effects are looking pretty bad ass.

It will never live up to the original. Why mess with perfection?

Any one gonna watch the new episode of "The Universe" tonight?
Speculation about life on other planets.

I'll probably see it out of boredom, but because it isn't the same story I won't go in expecting to be entertained. I absolutely love the original and it's overall story of paranoia with the "threat of nuclear war" thrown in there. This new one just looks like a typical "alien comes to earth and tries to destroy us" flick. I really, really, REALLY, hope I'm wrong.

Doesn't look at that great to me. Remakes can be good, but judging by the trailers, it looks like they changed far to much to really even be in the same light as the classic. I won't completely judge though until I see/hear how it is.

"Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!"
My stomach turns at the thought of this AMAZING Sci-Fi classic being re-made.

I really like Keanu Reeves, personally. I really can't think of anyone who would fit Neo in the Matrix better.

Why would this bother you? Whether the movie kicks ass or sucks ass, it shouldn't take away any enjoyment you get from the original.
Not all remakes are horrible. John Carpenter's The Thing was much better than the 50's version.

Yea, well that was only because ol Jack Burton was in it!.
Srsly though, the origianl was the reason i got into Sci Fi, aside from star wars which cemented me as a Science fiction head.

Well with Keanu Reeves, you now have this to look forward to:

The Thing for me was more of a "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" remake than a remake of "The Thing From Another World". The only similarities are that it took place somewhere really cold (Antarctica and North Pole respectively), an alien was unfrozen from ice, and people died. Other than that, completely different movies.
The original was more like (ironically) The Day The Earth Stood Still, in that it took an alien to show us how our dependencies can become a weapon against us. In TFAW, it was about the environment and in DTESS it was about technology and nuclear weapons.

For me "The Day The Earth Stood Still" is an "untouchable" film (one that should NEVER be remade). However, Hollywood, in their quest for more $ has decided to f*** with it.

Hmm. There's a "Wolverine: Origins" trailer being shown in the previews for TDTESS...I might have to see it just for that

I took the name not from the movie, but the Canadian Rock Band. One of their popular albums was Sir Army Suit.

I don't mind remakes...some are better than the original, some not as good, and others are different enough while staying relevant to it's origins that it's like an entirely different film. (The Last Man on Earth/Omega Man/I Am Legend)
This film however, without having seen it, knowing what I know about it, I will not see it at all. The original, although preachy, had it's moments, and I did enjoy it, as a 9 year old, and would watch it again as a curiosity. The original at least had some factual connotation behind it. This new edition is nothing more than a joke.
