Before the songs some explanation.

1. I hate most metal, especially death metal and nu-metal. I realize some people enjoy songs more of this nature. Please feel free to reply with some metal songs as I know those are under-represented on my list.

2. Same goes for punk. Although I don't hate it, just don't know enough to make more suggestions than the ones I have.

3. I have country. Deal with it. If it's too much country for some I would strongly advocate the first 2 country songs listed.

4. I tried to be somewhat realistic i.e. no Zeppelin on the list (even though it would be awesome)

5. Songs I am convinced would be awesome in Rock Band and no amount of persuasion could change my mind are bolded.

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
How You Remind Me - Nickelback

Two things:
One: SLTS would be awful. It's More Than a Feeling's riff, and some sustains for guitar, and the vocals have several random pitch jumps that would just make it dumb to include. Use Come as You Are, About a Girl or Lithium if you're going for popular, or you could go for the gusto:

(note that About a Girl and School were released in the '80s)
Two: Chad Kroeger has said that games like Rock Band are the cancer that's killing Rock music. Nickelback could not be in this game.

I changed it to Heart Shaped Box. About A Girl is on GHWT. I tried to get unique songs.

And I removed Nickelback. I just figured they are popular and that's the only one of their songs I can halfway stand.

Heart-Shaped Box was on GH2, so... uh... yeah. Not that it's a bad choice. Just saying.

Oh don't own GH2. Just really wanted to avoid GHWT. I know some of the others were on other games too, but adding drums and vocals makes them new in my book.

Yes, along with every other cookie-cutter band we see nowadays. It's ironic, see.

I gotta say I like the OP's list, well done.

I also gotta agree with his views on what people call metal these days. Certainly isn't the metal I grew up on during the 70's and 80's.
