Carefully, remove the spring from the pedal using pliers. Grab the top of the spring and compress it down below the black plastic bit at the top that is keeping it from sliding off. Now pull the spring out sideways. It's a bit of a pain but you don't have to take apart the pedal this way.
Now you want to pre-compress the spring to take away some of its ... springiness. Use two or three wire twist ties like the ones that go around cables or plastic bags. You want them strong enough to hold the spring compressed all the time. Using the pliers, compress about half of the spring and tie the coils together with the ties. Put ties on two sides of the spring at least so it is not lop-sided. The spring should still be plenty long enough to fit back into the pedal in its original location touching the bottom of the foot pedal.
Carefully, reinsert the spring back into the pedal with the pliers fitting the top back over the plastic bit that keeps it sliding around. Now the pedal should be less stiff and easier to press. You might want to adjust it stiffer or even softer by tying up fewer or more coils.
I still have a lot of problems with double hits, but at least my leg isn't sore as much. Hope this helps you folks!
Rock, rock on.
P.S. On my real kit I use Tama Iron Cobras and I really miss them in RB. (sniff)
