If you already know, shut it:D....
From GiantBomb.com:
Guitar Hero: Metallica To Have Double Bass Support
"Nick Chester over at Destructoid has rounded up the first batch of meaningful details on Activision's next band-focused Guitar Hero game, Guitar Hero: Metallica. So far, it sounds like a World Tour-based update that follows the standard feature set you'd expect, along with a similar level of band focus that you saw in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
The coolest-sounding addition to the game is a new drum difficulty called Expert Plus that is specifically made for people who two kick pedals. Official double bass support seems like one of those things that should have happened awhile ago, and the Metallica catalog is probably perfect for that sort of enhancement.
The game will also have Metallica-tinged takes on the GHTunes song creation tools and an array of video and trivia about the band.
Here's the song list so far, including tracks from Metallica and other acts."
Metallica
* Enter Sandman
* For Whom the Bell Tolls
* Fuel
* Hit the Lights
* King Nothing
* Master of Puppets
* No Leaf Clover
* Nothing Else Matters
* Sad But True
* The Unforgiven
* Where I May Roam
Songs from other, non-Metallica bands will include:
* Alice in Chains - No Excuses
* Bob Seger - Turn the Page
* Judas Priest - Hell Bent For Leather
* Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
* Lynyrd Skynyrd - Tuesdays Gone
* Mastodon - Blood and Thunder
* Michael Schenker Group - Armed and Ready
* Samhain - Mother of Mercy
* The Sword - Black River

I'm pretty sure you can just get a splitter and two bass pedals and ta dah! Double Bass. However a port for 2 bass pedals. I hope Harmonix does something like that soon :(

Was going to post a thread about it, but I feared angry Rock Band fans shrieking "NO ONE WANTS DOUBLE BASS!" and "GENERAL FORUMS!" at me.
Even though I bet everyone would love it if double-bass was indeed supported.
Although, the separate difficulty seems kinda like a strange thing for the non-double bass songs. I can't see much of a difference.

Judas Priest because they are big influences, Bob Segar and Lynyrd Skynyrd because Metallica covered them, The Sword because they toured with Metallica, Mastodon, Kyuss, MSG, and Alice in Chains because the band are fans.

The other bands are bands that have influenced Metallica, or worked with Metallica, or toured along with Metallica a few of the songs were also covered by Metallica.
Also I am pissed off Queen is on the game, I don't understand why they are not on Rock Band yet, its just a band that makes perfect sense for Rock Band but they are no where to be found! I guess Queen is only on the game because of Metallica working with them on "Stone Cold Crazy" but still...that does not explain why We Are The Champions is on the new GH On Tour and why Queen is not on Rock Band.

You're assuming that it will carry over. I have not heard anything say that they intend to carry the GH stuff over like Rock Band has. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have not heard any confirmation about that.
In fact if they are planning to proceed with their plan of 3 disc releases a year then would it really be in their best interest to make the previous games worthless (like RB1) in such a short time? That's what would happen if they did release games so close together and then had the library carry over.
Pretty sure they've said Death Magnetic would carry over. But nothing else from GH.

It's not confirmed whether or not WT will carry over to future core games (think guitar hero 5). Only that Metallica won't transfer into WT.

It's too bad Metallica is no longer about the music and is only about the money. I love Lars Ulrich's drumming, and he's a huge influence on me, but I hate him as a person. I was hoping that GH would only have gotten "St. Anger", cuz that's about the quality of game that GH is. I was so happy to see that Rock Band had Metallica DLC way back in the beginning, and "...And Justice for All" is still one of my favorite songs to drum. But this whole "GH Metallica" thing is just awful, and I think the Double Bass is a bad idea. Personally, I'm a real drummer, and I think double-bass is one of the most un-needed and pointless innovations in drumming. For every single fantastic drummer that uses a double-bass pedal you name, I'll name you 10 fantastic drummers who don't. Even Nicko McBrain said that the double-bass pedal is completely undrummer-like. I think Activision is simply trying to say "Look, we finally had something that Rock band didn't." and they will poorly execute the whole thing. Just my two cents.

I strongly disagree with this. Metallica don't play Thrash anymore, but the whole "sellout" bandwagon doesn't seem to have much ground to it.
If anything, the Black Album is the closest thing to a sellout album they have ever recorded... assuming a drastic change in style constitutes "selling out". Really, it was under the guidance of Bob Rock, combined with the music Lars was listening to at the time.
I don't know what the hell people are thinking when they say Load/Reload are sellout albums. The albums sound nothing like the mainstream at the time (grunge). St Anger just wasn't very good IMO, and Death Magnetic was an attempt to return to their old thrash sound.
I think the only supporting reason for them "selling out" was the Napster ordeal. Even so, it's not like Metallica were the only ones doing it... it's just that it's so rare for a metal band to do something like that. I'll agree that Lars was a complete douche for doing it, though he was most likely overly-paranoid about filesharing. He even say's he regrets doing it, so I chalk it up to an overreaction.

I think that they've completely and utterly sold out. I don't think they've done so musically; in fact, I'm a huge Metallica fan, and I found Death Magnetic to be an outstanding album. I'm talking about the pure money aspect of it. The Napster thing is, of course, the main example that is cited, and I remember watching an interview that Lars somewhat regretted it, however, he nor Metallica has never actually apologized or tried to make people aware that they regret it. The most recent example of this is Guitar Hero: Metallica. Now, I realize that I have a skewed view of the situation, because I hate what Guitar Hero has become, but it's obvious that Metallica is exclusive to GH because Activision threw what was likely an ungodly amount of money at them. If Metallica actually cared about anything music-related, they would have weighed the situation, and would have said "Well, Rock Band is doing a lot more with the genre and are really more about the music, so we'll license our music to both games." At the very least, they could have allowed "Enter Sandman" to carry over. That was just petty on their part. I personally hate the idea of "band exclusivity" because it's going to end up about who has what music, not about innovation or gameplay.

I hooked up my double 9000's today and its a hoot.
Never thought I would want em, but boy can I make some neato sounds. The transition back to HH seems very intuitive too.
GHWT methodology will Ruin the Metallica drum charts, just like the rest of em IMO.

Dude, if this is the one and only chance I ever get to see Mercyful Fate then I will own this game, no questions asked. I wouldn't care if it was only one song, I would have to own this game. Of coarse I would much rather have RB do Fate or King, but if not then oh well.
Double bass huh? Well, finally everyone will get to see how frustrating this can be to perfect. Although Metallica doesn't use complex double bass really, they do have some fast stuff for sure. Excited to see how this plays out? Might have to try it for that as well. Come on HMX, looks as though the tables are starting to turn slowly. No more velocity sensitivity on my Ion's, and now double bass in GH? This will definitely intrigue the drummers out there. It is me somewhat. Mercyful Fate is more important still. ;):)

Damn... Double Bass and Mastodon. It sucks that you'll probably need the crappy GH:WT kit to do the double bass mode. Just when you think HMX have the advantage over the competition, GH do something awesome like this.
EDIT: This should be on the RB forums... GH and RB directly compete with each other, so when one innovates, the other should be pressured to keep up.

Mercuryshadow my friend, dude how you been? Been meaning to catch up to you at some point. My life's been way too hectic and stressful to have any form of social life at all ever since I moved back in June. So sorry about missing you and stuff. I'll get back to that.
So you figured out double bass pretty easy? That's awesome. Usually I always found people could do it at certain tempos, but not as many as they might have thought. Usually playing fast is easier then playing slow too. But everyone has they're strengths and weaknesses just like anything. But you're fairly accurate saying that regular old double bass isn't too difficult after a bit of practice. But if you honestly picked it up that fast then I think you just have some natural drumming talent. Seriously. Some people struggle big time with a nice consistent double bass, especially at the different tempos.
If you want to get good on the double bass and use it for more then the regular old RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL pattern, check out Virgil Donati on you tube. I don't know if they will have it on there, but I have some vids of him doing specific double bass demonstrations. For me this man is hands down the best double bass drummer ever, at least that I'm aware of. He shows you how to start off with paradiddles first, then double paradiddles, then double paradiddles with a fill in between as an example. He uses his feet like we would our hands, it's incredible to watch and hear. So if your doing good with double bass and want to explore a bit, this is what I suggest, it's a lot of fun to play. Here is a very short example of what I mean. Watch carefully, because his feet are moving pretty fast towards the end of this clip to see what he's doing. Talk to you soon bro, hope your doing well buddy. ;):)

I think it was easy for me because I started drumming with my right foot and I'm left footed, but yeah it only took me all but a day if even that, I picked up double tapping surprisingly quick, havent got the flying fingers technique down yet, but I'm getting close, my weakness is still roll's, i've taught myself some drum cadences as well.

This is exactly what I wanted HMX to do with Double Bass. Exactly. I wanted Expert Plus and no leaderboard support and that's exactly what they're doing.

* Mastodon - Blood and Thunder
* The Sword - Black River
Probably the most epic win of tracks. It's already better than GHWT's setlist. Definite buy just for those three songs.

I seriously hope you're right, although I'm not spending £220 JUST for double bass in ONE game. If Rock Band 2's drum set supports double bass in GH:M then I'll buy that (when the RB2 kit is released in the UK.) If not, then I'll just go without Double Bass.

Honestly, I think that's an incredibly good way of them to do it - make double bass as its own difficulty. It's probably the easiest way to program it in, it's distinctive, and the people with only one pedal can still have fun with expert.

I was under the impression that the GH drums did support double bass without a splitter. I do know that their drums support the real e-drum bass triggers like the Roland KD-8 rather then the On/Off switch like in RB. At least that's how I understand it. With this being the case you don't need to buy the Kickbox like you do for Rock Band to change the signal. All you would need to do to have a killer set up for double bass is have a KD-8 and a double pedal.
Honestly, other then the extremely stupid layout of the GH:WT drums (My Opinion), everything else they did with those drums are awesome. All the way from the bass signal to the midi input for real e-drum support. I wish HMX thought this stuff through on their drums. Not to mention the software you can use to control and change the sensitivity on every single pad/cymbal for the GH:WT drums. This is just genius in my opinion. In fact, if RB implemented this, I believe there wouldn't have been any need for that damn patch we got yesterday for the velocity sensitivity. I could be wrong, but regardless, GH:WT wins here hands down. I just think the layout straight up sucks.

I'm disappointed at the songs from other artists. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot are great songs I'd love to see in RB, but it's just lame that a Metallica-themed game isn't all Metallica. I felt the same about their Aerosmith game, actually.
Metallica has plenty of great songs that could fill a disc. GH approaches it all wrong.
I guarantee HMX's Beatles game won't have Joan Jett in it.
The double bass feature is a good idea... for Activision. Selling those extra bass pedals should raise their profit line. I don't see the need for double bass. I think a more important addition would be a hihat pedal which would make the experience more authentic.

I'm not too worried about this. It will only effect the hardest of the hardcore drummers. Most people can't play on expert, and most expert players probably won't be able to handle double bass.
As for the other bands on the disc... Alice in Chains is the only one that looks even remotely tempting to me. The Metallica tracklist seems all right so far, but they really have to pull out all of the stops to get me to consider this. And yes, that includes being able to put the songs on the hard drive for play in GHWT.

I'm more about that track list...Which OWNS, BTW.
The non-Metallica tracks are pretty awesome! KYUSS! THE SWORD! this might actually be a possible rental for me....but ONLY if they include "Fight Fire With Fire".

Oh dude, those look pretty sick. I like that all black look. Reminds me of the new Joey Jordison drums. You can even get black cymbals. :eek::) I'll have to check those things out. That's so killer your getting a set. How soon till you own those bad boys? Not soon enough I'm sure.
Cool, I'll check my inbox. Thanks bro.
On topic, Dyers Eve would be one intense song for drums. Lars can definitely come up with some unique combos and beats, this song really shows it. To bad this is all for GH, would love to play some of this stuff in RB. Oh well, my number one wish would still be to get some Mercyful Fate AND King Diamond. I would be very surprised if one song wasn't included with him/them in this Metallica pack, Lars is a HUGE King Diamond fan and influence, so am I. :p:)

I'll back you up 100% with "Sleep"! Killer stuff there. In fact I'm in agreement with pretty much everyone here. That list has some very very killer stuff. I still wish it was in Rock Band instead though. I might end up with this after all.
Is this going to be a stand alone game? I think it is, just not 100% sure what's going on here.

No indication of it yet on the Setlist So Far, but I was wondering if the HMX tracks would make an appearance on GHM....Battery, And Justice For All, Blackened, Ride the Lightning...
Somehow, I think licensing/legal issues would keep those tracks from appearing in the Neversoft game, and that would make GHM a little less complete.
Still, awesome setlist, with "Death Magnetic" fully importable = lots of hours of thrashing. Too bad they chose to standalone it, though.

Wow man, those look/sound pretty impressive for the price. You're going to have to let me know how they sound. I tell you what, I've help some people make their less expensive kits sound pretty sweet by just having the right heads and proper tuning. Tuning is so important to making a kit sound good. Tuning can take time though to learn and can be a *****. I highly recommend a tuning aid like the Drumdial. It makes tuning fast and accurate, it truly makes a huge difference. Just a suggestion. ;)
I'm surprised I never heard of that company, especially being around for 30 years. I really like that black finish on there, very slick. Once you get some awesome cymbals around that kit, it will really pop out. I'm totally excited for you. Let us know how your drumming goes once you get those puppies. Enjoy!! :)

I know that. I read nothing goes cross game except the Death Magnetic album, which has the GH3 charts and GHWT charts in that like 1.4 GB file. I was asking if that file also contains the Super Expert double bass chart thing for GHM as well.

I'll agree that Lars was a complete douche for doing it, though he was most likely overly-paranoid about filesharing. He even say's he regrets doing it, so I chalk it up to an overreaction.
He probably only regrets it because it hurt the band's PR, which cost them potential sales(ironic since the reason he did it in the first place was to protect his trust fund). Though I agree people continue to use things like that as a crutch so they can continue to dismiss anything Metallica puts out without actually examining it.
I'm happy the additional acts have relevance to the band, although comments to the effect of, "Shut up fools, the setlist doesn't suck it's only half there" aren't very convincing to my ears....following the example of what they did with Aerosmith, most of the rest of the setlist will probably be bonus tracks of Metallica's covers of originals already in the game. Meaning my hopes of having a little more representation from the band's earlier works will go up in smoke.
Very surprised that nothing from Motorhead was included in the release info package. Metallica are some of their biggest fans and Neversoft have licensed them previously. If there isn't anything in there come final setlist info I will have lost all faith that there's anyone with good sense at Neversoft.

The non-Metallica tracks don't make much sense. They're supposed to be bands that influenced them, right? I would've thought there'd be Diamond Head, Mercyful Fate and Motorhead ie. bands from the Garage EP's...

To all the people complaining that the Metallica tracklist won't be importable to GHWT. I could be mistaken as I'm not following the bealtes game since I just don't care much for them, but isn't the RB: Beatles game supposed to be stand alone too?
In any event I would gladly swap discs around for GH:M by the looks of the setlist shaping up on it.

Remember, this is the Rock Band board, so things are only bad when Guitar Hero does them. If Rock Band had open notes on bass, it'd be awesome, but it sucks because it's guitar hero. Same rule applies here with the double bass and the band-specific stand alone game.

HMX did not announce RB: Beatles. They announced a collaboration with the estates of the Beatles members that would be music game related. It's not even clear at this time that the project will carry the RB name. This comparison, at the present, is flawed and not worth taking a cheap shot at RB over.
For what little it's worth, I have not played GHWT and am not one who continually insults the game or those who play it, but then I won't be going out of my way any time soon to try it out either. They had two chances already to keep me coming back to the well and both fell short in my eyes.
I will certainly try out GHM when it comes along because of my love for the source material, but my expectations will be quite tempered, and not being able to import the new album's content will not affect that in any way(though I'm still scratching my head as to why the album is such an enormous download).

I knew Pat Thrasher the guy that did the Protools work on Metallica's album Reload and some other stuff. He said that they just hashed out whatever bs and then when he asked them if they wanted to do some other takes they told him "you fix it". He said it took him 2 weeks to make it presentable.

From Metallica.com:
"Yes, we know, it's the worst kept secret in rock-n-roll but we're here now to finally confirm that there will indeed be an all-Metallica Guitar Hero game released in the first half (!?) of 2009. Guitar Hero Metallica allows you to play as us in either single instrument or band career game modes in your choice of some famous settings (Tushino Airfield anyone?) or new venues with in the round staging. Included are 28 Metallica songs along with a few from some of our buddies like as Alice in Chains, the Foo Fighters, Slayer, Machine Head and Queen. There is also an all new Expert+ difficulty setting featuring two bass drum kick pedals (!!!) along with all the gameplay modes from Guitar Hero World Tour.
Over the next few months, we're going to be updating you with track listings, more features, of course how and when you can get the game, and some cool previews of the game right here on the site. As you've heard us say before, keep checking back for more details!"
K, we knew about Foo, Slayer, & Queen...but now Machine Head!? DAMN!!! As long as it isn't "Aesthetics Of Hate" since we already have it in RB, this set list is looking better than GHWT!

awesome, i cant wait for this game. one thing about how the set list is shaping out. it looks like they are picking metallica more popular songs which some of them are not as good as the less popular. i wouldnt be surprised if they didnt include any st. anger.
as for the side bands,
the sword is on guitar hero again, i need to listen to this song. i saw them live with metallica and i bet they played this, but i dont remember it.
mastodons blood and thunder, hell yeah! that will be crazy on drums.
and those are the only things iv heard :P
also i hope that the game will be able to load the death magnetic album, which i assume will happen.

Yeah, they've said that "Death Magnetic" will be compatible with GH:M.
EDIT: With the 10 announced Metallica songs and the post saying there's gonna be 28, that's 18 unannounced songs. And with "Death Magnetic" having 11 songs (2 versions of "Suicide & Redemption") that'd be a total of 39 Metallica songs.
