View Full Version : 6x Multiplier for the bass track?

Gamespot remarked that in order to encourage interest in the part, the bass players are going to have a natural cap of 6x multiplier instead of 4x.

While I applaud the idea of spicing things up for the bass player, this seems sort of a cheesy way to go about it.

On the other hand, this will encourage really good players to take the bass part. A high accuracy performance at 6x can make a big splash with scoring.

Other random thoughts:

Does this 6x stays in effect if the bass part is a rhythm part instead?

Will it go up to 12x with star power? (if there is such a thing)

Since the bass parts are notoriously easy, will this possibly over-inflate or skew the scoring?

Is there a better/different way to make the bass track interesting?

Closing thought: The Trooper for GH2 has the worst bassline ever!

it depends on the songs they put in. some songs are harder on bass than guitar.

I guess that sounds like an OK idea, I don't know why a bigger multiplyer will encourage play, to me the real way to get people to play bass is to find more songs with catchy bass in it so that people will enjoy playing it. If it is repetetive and boring no one is going to want to play it anyways.

Gotta give something to bassists. Some more Rush would be awesome though.

I actually think it's a pretty good idea. As far as I can tell, bass isn't going to be quite as fun to play all the time as guitar, so this is a way to keep one person who is better at playing from having the other guy play bass all the time, which could get boring.

The best way to increase interest in the Bass would be to change how it is played. A Real Bass is not played like a guitar, they could spice it up in game.

I don't see the 6x multiplier as an incentive to play the bass.. It's just a feature added in to keep your scores up as high as other players might be.

yeah not really an incentive..
although it in the interest of comparing scores.. since it'll take a longer uninterupted string of notes to max out your multiplier, you'll need more skill than before to get in the upper leaderboard scores

its gunna be hard to make bass very interesting, you'd have to give them some RHCP songs and like a slap n pop pap instead of a strum bar, or something like that.

All you need to do to make bass interesting is to throw some Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Rush, Rage Against the Machine, and Primus tunes in there. I'd definitely play bass if I could play some mad Flea, Geddy Lee, and Les Claypool basslines.

It is pretty hard though to find songs with good parts for everything. For instance, if you put in some Primus songs with good bass parts, in most songs you would be sacrificing a guitar part (except for Jerry Was A Race Car driver, which has a sick bassline and a sweet guitar solo thoughout the whole song). RHCP and Rush have great bass and guitar parts, and God knows Neil Peart is the most kick ass drummer ever.

a strange way to make the bass interesting is make it so that they have to alternate strumming up and down or just take random notes throughout the song and make the bass player play those strumming up.

it gets a lot harder like that, i sometimes alternate on the really easy parts of songs in GH

Which isnt really that bad. If it goes from 1x to 2x to 4x to 6x and 2x to 4x and 8x and 12x with star power, that wpuld be cool
