I finally decided to install and set up the drum set today, and after I set everything up (including calibrate the drum controller), I started off in the practice mode. I was very surprised to discovered that no matter how light I tap the pads or how hard to hit them, they simply do not register on the screen. My drum pedal works, as do all other buttons (like start, d-pad, etc). I tried to manually calibrate the drum, but I discovered that it cannot detect my drumming on the pads either.
Is my drum set DOA? Please help.

The boards controlling the drums are pretty easy to access. All you need is a moderately thin philips head screwdriver. Just take the six screws off of the bottom of the set (4 around the battery door and two near the mystery black port). Once open, check to see if any wiring harnesses are not connected or if any connections are loose. If so, reconnect them or RMA the set.
Or, you can just RMA the set.

I opened up the board, and I saw many wires and they seemed to be connected. So is my only other solution to contact RMA and send it back?

Unless you know enough about electronics to test individual components on the boards, that would be your best option. The fact that all drum pads were not responding is what led me to believe that you had a loose harness.
You may also have the option of returning to your point of purchase if you are within their return period. Harmonix advises them not to accept returns so that they may handle the RMA process, but it is much faster to replace them yourself if the store will let you.

Well, due to some unknown miraculous reason, my drum pads suddenly came to life. I decided to power on my Xbox to give it one more shot before I contact RMA, and this time it works. However, I will test it a few more times before I'm sure that this glitch won't resurface, because I didn't do anything to fix the problem; it just fix itself. On the other hand, on of my cymbal extension keeps on detaching itself from the drum set, so it is super annoying. Might be another quality issue since I've tightened it as much as I could to no avail.

For the cymbal connections, make sure that you snap the plastic connector together BEFORE tightening the bolts. After the plastic pieces are snapped together, the screws don't have to be that tight to keep the cymbal arms in place.
EDIT: Unless you are talking about the plug that connects to the ports on the back of the drums. Tape that in place if you need to.
And I'm glad that the drums are miraculously working. Maybe you bumped some connection into place that was previously weak.

My RB2 set is having the same problem and (so far) without the miraculous recovery.
EDIT: Set miraculously recovered after resetting the XBOX and controller a few times (resetting them once did nothing for some reason).
