Okay here's the problem, I had a PS# with 4 usb ports and we all played the drums, mic and both guitars through them, the guitars were wireless but used those little tiny boxes to make a connection. the instruments are all from rockband one, the guitars are from the second run so no issues with the strummer. Now my PS3 is fried due to the motherboard committing seppuku (aka suicide), we got another PS3 a few days ago. Come to find out this one has only TWO usb ports. I called the local gaming outfit and looked online. ALL sources say the guitars don't need that little box and should just wirelessly hook up with the play station.... okay... JUST exactly how do I do that? I can't get them to hook up wirelessly for the life of me and if I use the little doodads then no one can play drums or sing. PLEASE HELP!
thank you for any advice,
gunny

Buy a USB hub or get a new RB2 guitar-the dongle has 2 extra USB ports built in.

thanks, didn't know there was one, the websites all said no USB port for the PS3 except for IGN (which I JUST found while writing this).
* the game stores locally don't have a hub for the PS3.
Will a hub used on laptops work?
I appreciate the advice jaygrady thank you!

A usb hub is a usb hub is a usb hub.
Any usb hub should work fine for your PS3 rocking out. The only possible catch is if you use a bus powered hub. Seeing as you need to run enough power for the Mic, and two wireless receivers. If that hub for your laptop doesn't work go to Wal-Mart and pick up a hub that also plugs into the wall.

I have a new PS3 with the two USB ports. With my new RockBand system (Beatles) it came with 3 dongles, two for the guitars, and one dongle for the drums. The guitar dongles have two ports located on the opposite end. I plug in one dongle (dongle for drums) into one of the PS3 ports. In the remaining PS3 port I plug in a guitar dongle which has two ports located on it's opposite end. In one of the two ports I plug in the other guitar dongle.. Now I have three open ports left. I can plug in up to 3 mics into theses extra ports. My PS3 hand held controller can be wireless so it does not always need to be plugged into a port. Remember this Beatles RockBand system set up to handle 3 mics, 2 guitars, and drums. When I play RockBand 2 you can play with 2 guitars, 1 mic, and drums. The dongles that hang out of the PS3 ports have little red blinking lights that go solid when you turn on your guitars and drums to show wireless connection. Hope I did not confuse you.
