Post your top 10 most wanted songs for rock band

I have been getting crap from you classic rock monglers because you think I listen to music because its "Popular" when really.... its not even on the radio and alot of people actually never heard of it

SO..........

If you are all so PRO-CLASSIC , ANTI-POPULAR , ANTI-NEW

I want to see the top 10 songs you want for rock band

and they better be at least 8/10ths NON SINGLES by classic bands... or I will consider you all the biggest hypotcrites that ever lived

Because quite frankly , classic rock IS THE POPULAR stuff... its all over the radio ...which would contradict what you jackasses have been saying

Yes... I meant that exactly... and by that I meant ALL music from the 90s till now that was made at all.. period

Even if it never saw radio or TV play ... ALL music (Which is and could be any and everything)

Any song from any Led Zeppelin album. Led Zeppelin didn't like to release tracks as singles, and practically all of their songs are amazing. Led Zeppelin is the definition of a rock band.

Nilsen581

Led Zeppelin - The Ocean (and like 50 other Zep songs)

Noone To Run With - The Allman Brother Band (and like 50 other AB songs)

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ? Roll Another Joint

Lynyrd Skynyrd ? Double Trouble (and like 50 other Skynyrd songs)

Molly Hatchet ? Gator Country (and a few other Molly Hatchet songs)

Led Zeppelin ? Traveling Riverside Blues

anything by The Marshall Tucker Band

The Edgar Winter Group ? Free Ride

anything by Pink Floyd

and of course anything by The Beatles

Some I can't even pick songs, theres too many to list...but I'd be happy with anything.

and when I say 50 other songs, I mean literally 50 other songs...Guys have been playing for 15 years...yea they have 50+ good songs.

Lets see how many songs these new "artists" write...

You can't stop 30 years of music...

There are simply more old songs than new songs (der) and those songs are better and are more popular. They just aren't on TV and video games because those mediums are aimed at a younger audience.

And it's not like I don't like some newer music...

I like Drops Of Jupiter and some Train...

I like some Buckcherry...

I like Blind Melon...jane's addiction, stone temple pilots, alice in chains, hootie and the blowfish and a bunch more.

All those artists have some of that "classic rock" feel to them...

Only this new emo/rock sounds terrible to me...whiny singers and the same chord every 2 seconds...

Go play When We Were Young in Rock Band...and tell me you don't want to kill yourself after playing the same chords over and over and over and over and over and over again.

anything by Pink Floyd

Heh, I was about to say that, although technically "Money" was one of their few singles, and I believe it actually made it into the top 40, so that song is disqualified.

Anywho, Pink Floyd is a good way to get around his "it can't be successful" qualifications.

Oh boy here we go again.

Us classic rock "monglers" aren't ANTI POPULAR AND ANTI NEW. We're ANTI BAD. I'm sure most of the Classic Rock fans have a bunch of bands they like from 90s and up. The reason we insult people who happen to like modern bands is not because they like modern music. Notice how people who make Linkin park threads are flamed to death. But look at A Muse thread. A Kaiser Chiefs thread. An R.E.M. thread. No people in those threads are going "That sucks its new go die etc".

You go around suggesting the worst examples of music that happen to be modern, and act as if classic rock fans hate it because they are some sort of vendetta against music that was made after the 90s because they are ANTI NEW, and ANTI POPULAR!

Why should we make a list without singles? We never said popular is bad. We say bad is bad, and since beginning of the 2000s, bad has happened to be popular. Why are we hypocrites if we don't follow an argument we didn't make?

Just to humor you I'll post my list

1. Big Country - Wonderland

2. Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly (among many other Floyd songs. This one would fit well though)

3. David Bowie - Diamond Dogs

4. Mott the Hoople - All The Young Dudes

5. The Kaiser Chiefs - Oh My God

6. Boomtown Rats - Rat Trap

7. Rush - Limelight

8. Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing

9. Spinal Tap - Majesty of Rock

10. Muse - Knights of Cydonia

This is among many artists, and what I want the most changes sometimes.

5. Time For Me To Fly - REO Speedwagon
6. California Man - Cheap Trick
7. Bad Moon Risin' - CCR
8. Suite Judy Blue - Crosby, Stills and Nash
9. No Time - The Guess Who
10. Parasite - KISS

actually, the entire Boston - Boston album is a Rock Band DLC must!, as is The Eagles - Hotel California lp.

Can't we all just get along?? You actually had a point, until you stuck your foot in your mouth and said something stupid like 'the beatles were overrated'. Perspective does play a big part in musical taste, but if you let it get in the way of identifying musical quality, then you've done yourself a disservice. Anytime allow yourself to not enjoy something for any reason other than the music itself, you're not giving it a fair chance. "Oh, my friends would make fun of me for listening to this" or "This is too old" or "I don't like this guy's face"...don't even bother talking about music. I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan, but I can still enjoy them and certainly recognize that they were an immensly talented band that left a huge wake of influence behind them. It seems like most of you either like classic rock or modern stuff; why not both? Good music is good music; don't discriminate something just because it was made in a different era. Fifteen years from now 'modern music' is going to be payed on classic rock stations anyway, assuming it has enduring listenability to it and isn't just a flavor of the week pop song. I think the classic rock monglers (?), as I believe it was put, simply take offense because it seems like the older stuff doesn't get it's due respect with some of you, despite the fact that it influenced most modern day musicians. There wouldn't even be a Metallica if there was never a Led Zeppelin, and I can't even describe in one day how directly and indirectly influential The Beatles were. Hell, even a band like Jet wouldn't exist without The Beatles. Just ask them.

Just.. don't expect people to take you seriously if say something like that. "The Beatles were overrated" is possibly the most incorrect statement about music that I could imagine anyone ever saying.

Now let's get some Korn into this game UNGH!!!

...that's a joke. But Radar Love, on the otherhand, that's not a joke. Put it in the game now.

I have a lot more fun playing music from the Stones, Rush, Maiden, The Who, etc; rather than Disturbed, Slipknot, The Sword, etc. I'm a big classic rock fan, but I also love punk (LOVE the Descendents, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag), and a lot of newer bands like the strokes, wolfmother, Chevelle, DFA 1979, etc. I hate Geddy Lee's voice in Rush but the 'awesomeness' of the music is undeniable - and that makes for great rock band song translations.

Well depending on what type of music you like:

Classic Rock 60s/70s Blues Feel- Rose Hill Drive. They are amazing and their first self-titled album is just awesome. Honestly when I first saw them open for the who I was amazed. I saw them again live at bumbershoot and its the best live show Ive ever seen.

If you like Metal - Valient Thorr. They play a pretty kickass live show too. Their singer is a little bit crazy, but isntrumentally this band is amazing. If you listen to their entire albums they are just filled with great riffs.

I listen to new music as well old music. But get this.

Where do you think that newer musicians got their ideas and inspirations from?

Could it be older music? Wait, maybe!

You gotta give respect for classic music, because there would be nothing 'new' to listen to, because the musicians today wouldn't have anything to get their inspirations from.

I propose that someone post a list of 10 "non-classic" songs that are relevant and fun to play. Us old-timers who "live in the past" gave you our lists. Time to return the favor. I'm not close minded in the least. I just prefer to listen(and now play along) to "classic rock". Sure, I enjoy playing Slither or Messages by VR on GH3. Love NIN's Hand That Feeds on RB. But if I had a choice, I'd rather see more "classic rock" DLC than the newer stuff. Just my opinion.

Other bands I love (since the list of ones I "like" is too long to post):

XTC
Radiohead
Wilco

I tried something on another message board several years ago, asking people to make suggestions for the next 5 CDs I bought, and that didn't work out too well. I went with the five that the guys were most passionate about in their arguments, and the only one I got out of it that I still listen to regularly was Jeff Buckley's "Grace."

7) English Boy by Pete Townshend (Psychoderelict)
6) Dance On A Volcano by Genesis (A Trick Of The Tail) (On a similar note A Trick Of The Tail off of A Trick Of The Tail would also be good and thus considered interchangeable)
5) Bell Boy by The Who (Quadrophenia)
4) Under The Gun by Deep Purple (Perfect Strangers)
3) Slow Burn by David Bowie (Heathen)
2) Resurrection by Brian May (Back To The Light)
1) The Show Must Go On (Queen) (Innuendo)

but I made a thread of all 90s music I would love to see in Rock Band.

Most of the music have roots in Classic Rock or have a little of that older rock feel/sound, and even my parents like the songs in there...

I have the Chips fromt the Chocolate Fireball CD, which collects the 25 O'Clock EP and Psonic Psunspot album. Definitely an impressive set.

I think part of what makes it so great is that they were just screwing around and didn't put any pressure on themselves--just tried to make it as fun and psychedelic as possible.

Just because your music isn't on the radio doesn't mean it's not popular. Most of the popular crap that angsty teens listen to isn't on the radio because radio stations are controlled by adults.

And singles are the best songs for Rock Band because everybody knows them.

I agree. I like the raw stuff on 25 O'Clock, but I think the songs from Psonic Psunspot are better, musically.

Have you heard that Colin has decided he's done with the band thing, so XTC is semi-officially defunct? Andy's doing a lot of stuff on his own lately--discovering small acts, producing, jamming in improvisational fashion to create Monstrance, etc.

But all those songs I heard hints of for future XTC albums will never see the light of day...not as XTC songs, anyway.

Andy's got a big box set called Fuzzy Warbles that features pretty much all of his demo tracks, which he released because a bunch of them were being black marketed, anyway. It's a big ol' box of "what might have been."

EDIT:

I think if they released a pack that included...

Making Plans for Nigel
Generals & Majors
Senses Working Overtime

(Or maybe swap Dear God for one of those)

...this game could revive an interest in the band.

I have a few lists with different themes

First List: Hit Singles

Much as I love album tracks and B-sides, Rock Band is a party game in addition to a single-player experience, and they need some tracks that lots of people can pick up and play. It's no excuse for getting bad songs just because they're popular though. Here are some great songs with parts that fit the song well and are also well-known.

1. Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
2. Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin
3. We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister
4. Paranoid Android - Radiohead
5 Paradise City - Guns N' Roses
6. Don't Look Back - Boston
7. Revolution - The Beatles
8. Panama - Van Halen
9. The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
10. You Give Love A Bad Name - Bon Jovi

Personal Favorites

These are the longshots that I would wet myself over.

1. Icarus (Borne on the Wings of Steel) - Kansas
2. Ramble On - Led Zeppelin
3. Still Raining, Still Dreaming - Jimi Hendrix
4. 2112 - Rush
5. Where Eagles Have Been - Wolfmother
6. Lucifer Sam - Pink Floyd
7. Rain - The Beatles
8. Willie the Pimp - Frank Zappa
9. Art of Dying - George Harrison
10. 1969 - Iggy Pop and the Stooges

(Or maybe swap Dear God for one of those) </td> </tr> </tbody></table>
...this game could revive an interest in the band. That would be awesome!

That would be awesome!

We can always dream.

Unfortunately, as the years drag on, fewer and fewer people remember XTC...most of the time when I hear people talk about them anymore it's a band citing them as an influence.

That's sad. There were so many cool bands in the 80s that will be forgotten. What angers me is that bands like U2 are huge, yet no one cares for XTC, or Big Country, or any other of the innovative artists that were huge.

Yup. Even one of my other favorite bands--R.E.M.--I have been told is "no longer relevant," which I find interesting because they're producing some of the best music they've ever done...it just sounds different from what they used to do.

Of course, with XTC, Andy kind of pulled the plug when he decided he was no longer touring. It's kind of hard to build a fan base and album sales when you reduce your exposure that much.

They did have a moderately successful radio tour in the late 80s: when Oranges and Lemons came out, they went from town to town playing acoustic versions of many, many songs at the radio stations--they probably ended up playing much longer sets than they would have if they'd done it live. It really helped their sales, but it still wasn't somethiing that Andy wanted to do a whole lot of.

One of the bands I remember from that period was Hothouse Flowers, who had one sorta hit but were actually a very fine band that did a lot of very bluesy work. The biggest boost they got was when Bono called them his favorite band, but since they didn't sound like U2, the fans didn't really catch on.

I'm all for you classic rock "monglers" to get your fill of your bands

but understand that "anti-bad" is perspective.....to me rush is bad, to you most modern bands are bad, to me the beatles were overrated, to you they wernt......

Perspective lets leave it at that

and that guy who wants 80s month.....pretty much anti new

HMMM I can't believe someone said the Beatles were overrated. I don't even know how to respond to this blasphemy... how you can think that the most important rock band in history (most likely, in terms of their influence and groundbreaking recording techniques and music) is overrated is incomprehensible. But everyone is entitled to their own opinions I guess...
Here's my dream list, although not all classic rock.

1. Runnin' Down a Dream - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
2. Like a Song - U2
3. Helter Skelter - The Beatles
4. Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin
5. Morning Glory - Oasis
6. Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots
7. Scar Tissue - Red Hot Chili Peppers
8. The Trooper - Iron Maiden
9. Revolution - The Beatles
10. Search and Destroy - Iggy and the Stooges
