View Full Version : Party Rock (Dance Rock)

As I occasionally go to clubs around the degenerate Los Angeles area, I notice that pretty much 99% of music played at most clubs is either Hip Hop or some sort of Hip Hop/Electronica mix. Being that I'm not really into Hip Hop (at least not anymore) I find this extremely annoying, and I brought it up to a friend of mine. Being a huge Rock aficionado now (thanks to Guitar Hero 1 :P), I asked my friend why NO CLUBS in L.A. (or Vegas for that matter) ever play any kind of Rock. Her simple answer was that most Rock music isn't something you can dance to.

In a weird way... she's right.

So here's my new mission in life... I'm trying to put together the ultimate 'Party Rock' playlist (for an upcoming party, so I'll be able to see if it pays off). Basically, I'm looking for solid, GOOD, Rock songs that you can have people of this generation actually dance to and have a good time. I know 'dance' has a weird connotation of Nine Inch Nails and other Industrial Rock, and while that stuff is okay, I'm looking more in terms of classic rock (though not exclusively).

So... suggestions?

almost any pulp songs will do, particularly "disco 2000" and the first andrew wk album would fit this bill perfectly.

Well if you're into the Rock En Espanol, then Heroes Del Silencio's Entre Dos Tierras is apparently the booty shaker. Well almost anything Rock En Espanol is booty shaking. I'm not to fond of it them dancing to it, but hey, it get's the ladies to dance with me....after 8 beers in me. I don't dance.

Daft Punk is a good one. Yeah, they're House, but sh**, Aerodynamic is the sweetest thing ever.

Bloc Party, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and any number of post-punk/post-punk revival/New Wave bands are tailor-made for the dance floor.

Beat me to I Get Wet. :(

Also, try Skinny Puppy's new album.

Definitely. Find some post-punk with some really catchy bass lines and people will definitely dance to it. Jenny Was a Friend of Mine and Somebody Told Me by the Killers are a couple.

yeah, new wave (as well as no wave if you're dealing with a particularly cool dancefloor) definitely holds a wealth of party gems.

You know it's funny, as I was creating my set list, i put like 10 AC/DC songs in... that band really is good at party music, in my opinion.

I used to club at this place in riverside that had a floor that played nothing but rock and roll. Of course, I wouldn't be caught dead in that one, I was always dancing to the house music. ;) And yes, AC/DC was playing. They're probably the most danceable of the old rock and roll bands.

Any cult would be great, actually. Fire Woman has a great beat for dancing, too.

I like "Fire Woman" too. Went club hopping/dancing years ago and the D.J. played "Love Removal Machine" in one of the places we went to. I think that was the first time I'd heard it and it's stuck with me ever since. Both good songs :).

The OP should go clubbing in Buckhead, Atlanta sometime. There's a ton of bars down there and while most of them stick with the R&B and House music, they have a number of places that play a lot of rock music, especially older stuff.

"Hair Of The Dog" by Nazareth or "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East might be a couple more that would work as far as classic rock goes.

I would not be able to provide any dance-able classic rock.

I do, however, enjoy modern pop/dance music that I'm sure a lot of people would HATE on this forum XD

Metro Station's Shake It and Cobra Starship's The City is At War are two examples I can think of that haven't been mentioned yet (I'm at work so I can't get the videos, sadly).
