Couple of quick questions...
Will the PS2 controllers be compatable with the PS3 and vice versa? For example, Say I have the PS2 version drums, buddy has the ps3 version drums. Will we be able to duel on either system??
Also will the PS2 have any online capability?
Thanks in advance!

I've been looking for info on this. Is RB available for PS2?

There will be no online play on the PS2. As for instrument compatibility, I would think not, but, who knows? We'll find out when it comes out.

Not that I don't believe you or anything :) but where are you getting this information?

Yes it comes out on the 12th of december! I plan on opening my preorder right there in the store. If the drums and guitar are not USB then I will return it for credit on a PS3. Definitely not going spend 160 bucks on controllers that will not upgrade with me! I would just like to push that upgrade back 1 more price drop :)

Even more unlikely, but...
Is it possible that the XBox Drums will be compatible with the PS2 version? I have the XBox version and would like to take my drums over to someone's house that is getting the PS2 version.
If it were, I'd likely even buy the PS2 version (since I already have guitars) just for portability when I want to take it somewhere (I'm afraid to move my XBox :) )
Please Harmonix, make this possible. It should just be a driver issue right? Heck, some MIDI drums even work with Drumania.

Apparently the PS2 and PS3 Rock Band Guitars are interchangeable, not sure about the drums though.

Very interesting Mr Thrawn....
But alas, I don't see those articles being solid proof that the ps2 gear will work on the ps3.
The articles contradict each other, and were written before Rock Band reached it's release date.
There is a little bit of bad news: Harmonix is leaving the USB hub out of the PlayStation 3 bundle. That means that if you buy one of the 40GB models of PlayStation 3, which only have two USB ports, you'll have to get your own hub. The PS2 version of the game will include a hub.
Editor’s Note: The PS3 version of Rock Band will not require a hub on any version of the PS3, as it ships with wireless guitars that do not need ports. This only applies to carrying the PS2 version over to the PS3.
So will the PS2 Gear have the lil PS button on them?? The Rock Band controllers don't work very well when they are out of the top 5 controllers ID's. How would you modify the controller ID without the PS button? Doesn't bode well for us PS2 owners who intend to upgrade in the near future.
Well I will know for sure on the 12th, I will be sure to post as soon as I have any information either way. I intend to take that day off of work

I don't know why this should be a secret. Can we get an official word on this? At this point they must know and it's not like the GH compatibility questions, this is within the same game.
Did they send any PS2 versions out for review? Could the reviewers check?
How about an official/semi-official response to this:
1. What is the state of the PS2/PS3 compatibility.
2. Do the drums from the XBox 360 version work with the PS2
3. Do the Guitar Hero PS2 controllers work with PS2 Rockband?
These seem like simple questions, and a gift purchase or two could depend on the answers - which I'd like sooner rather than later.

That one statement has me on the fence here. Hopefully someone will release this tiny bit of info soon.

Yeah, these seem like simple questions. I know Harmonix isn't actually doing the PS2 version, but SOMEONE must know. There is almost no information out about the PS2 version.
If the PS2 GH guitars work, I'll be buying a copy of the game for a friend for X-mas (he has a PS2 and 2 guitars) and if the XBox drums work I'll probably buy a PS2 version for myself so I don't worry about taking it somewhere (I already have the XBox version).
These seem like very simple questions that are either in or not in (can't imagine anything would change this late), and it would be nice to get an answer.

Well, I plugged my PS3 guitar into my computer and found out why the PS2 guitars don't work... the control scheme on the PS3 strats is totally different. The biggest difference is that the strummer is a POV hat (same as pressing up/down on the d-pad on the guitar), whereas the strummer on the PS2 guitars is an analog stick. And also of interest, I didn't install any special drivers or anything, and Windows identifies the strat as "Harmonix Guitar for PlayStation 3".

I have a question along this line. Currently, I own a PS2 and Guitar Hero. For Christmas, however, I'm planning on getting PS3 and Rock Band for it. Can I use the Guitar Hero PS2 guitars with it, or do I need to get another Rock Band PS3 guitar or Guitar Hero 3 PS3 guitar?

You CANNOT use PS2 peripherals with PS3 Rock Band. The only music controllers that will work with Rock Band on PS3s are the ones that come in the bundle. Unless the game is patched.

Again, Where is this information from? I see people all over the place claiming this and that and no solid facts anywhere. The ps2 GH guitars will most likely not work with Rock Band (Who knows with the ps2 to usb adapter!?!?! I will try this in a bit and post my findings, Yep I broke down and bought a PS3, and the rock band bundle) My neighbor down the street still has the PS2 bundle on pre order so I will still be able to test the controllers when it is released on the 12th. **Edit again, Nope with the PS2 to USB adapter I have (the one from radio shack for 11 bucks great for FoF) The PS2 GH guitars are not working, the Green button works not at all and the yellow button actually takes you forward. When you try to start with the yellow button it complains there is no mic attached for vocals. :(
The GH3 PS3 guitar at current does not work with Rock Band, I have seen people posting all over the place claiming there will be a patch to make it work, flaming at hmx, red octane, ea, Microsoft?!?!?! for the les paul not working at release but what are ya gonna do? I have not however seen a news release or post from a hmx employee stating there would or would not be a patch. We can always hope.
Oh yeah and before I forget, I would bet 100 bucks to your 5 Turdman, that the RB Mic for the PS2 works for the PS3 version of RB. Which therefore makes your entire statement suspect. My Logitech (same as the RB mic) mic that I bought for Karaoke Revolution on the PS2 works flawlessly with the PS3 version of RB.
** ooops you did say music controllers, my bad... but is the voice not an instrument??

I agree with you eleventy5, I was understanding that the GH3 Gibson controller for PS3 was a no brainer in the RB game. But the PS3, RB game doesnt recognize the entire controller, when you try to add it as the 4th controller on my game it comes up as a mic, and only a few of the buttons work on the Gibson. But in the GH game whice is also PS3, the Gibson works perfect. Hoping and looking for a patch. I think I have spent enough money on this system in the past 8 months, that there better be a patch LOL

As I have posted in other threads, The PS3 RB Strat does not work on the PS2 with the GH games. No lights, no connection. I am assuming this is due to the fact that there were no USB peripherals for GH on the PS2, therefore USB is probably not even initialized in any of the GH games on the PS2.
I still hold out hope that the PS2 and PS3 RB controllers will be cross compatible!

Hmmmmm....
QUESTION
Which controllers are compatible with Rock Band?
Answer
Rock Band is compatible with most third party peripherals. While the Rock Band hardware is the only hardware guaranteed to work with the game, Harmonix has an open platform philosophy of enabling the Rock Band Software to work with as many third party peripherals as possible. PlayStation 2 peripherals are generally compatible but may require a 3rd party adapter to function properly.
The Guitar Hero 3 Les Paul is not compatible.
Note: The Playstation 3 controller can only be used with the microphone.
Well I had to RMA my guitar to find this handy lil article on the EA website. I am not sure what to make of this, but I am betting this is only pertaining to the PS2 peripherals that are already out. Who knows, 3 more days and we will know for sure.
