I know before launch we had a bunch of cool mod ideas around here (cup holders, bass pad, etc.). What's the status?

My fire mod was a failure so we're taking all our parts and resources into another direction...neon.

Uh, well...I cut four mousepads into circles and put them over the pads to make them quieter. Worked like a charm till my son thought it was a good idea to take them off and play with them, and I was out of double sided tape...then the dog chewed two of them to pieces. So now I just have two of those spongy things you put on pencils to make them easier to grip on the tips of my drum sticks. That works too, but not as well. I'm going to the music store tomorrow to pick up some drum dampeners. No cup holder yet. :)

Lol...I cut up mousepads as well...the drum heads are the same size as the small plates I own and I used them to trace out the circles.

So far I just keep them in place with rubber bands though since I'm not sure if I want to mark up the drum heads with tape. If I do I'm going to use velcro though. You can find it at Target in the sewing section...one side comes pre 'sticky'.

I have had an idea for a cup holder. Now that I've got my USB hub and wiring finalized, I took a stab at it:

Worked out pretty well.

How did you make that?

That's nice Apples....but if you hit the drums really fast and hard, does the soda fizz over?

Seems to have worked out pretty well. No side effects while playing unless the can is completely empty, then it rattles a little bit during fills. No sense in holding an empty can though.

The part is actually intended for use on a pinball machine (I collect those when I'm not rocking out), but I did a little retrofit with some twist ties and it was perfect. Here's the part:

No drum mod, but I did make a mic stand out of a broom stick, some wire and a 12 pack box. Has made singing much more fun now that I can do rock star mic stand theatrics. Sure helped make the one man band thing easier too.

Just thinking... theoretically could one make a double-bass kick pedal if HMX was to release just the kick pedal by using a standard headphone splitter?

Had wondered that myself after seeing the connector. Don't really care/need it for myself, but was curious anyway.

YUP! Couple people have already done it and it works fine.

That's nice but now we have to either buy the entire bundle again...I may just do this and sell off the game...it's tempting (to have a bass guitar now, a backup mic, and the extra floor kick)

Has anybody verified if you can hook up the drums to a PC and use a drum software program like EZdrummer to use the pads as triggers?

I know 360 drums work on PC.

I actually thought about buying an extra set and then selling the game with Mic on Ebay and like extra guitar on Ebay maybe and save the spare drum set for down the road.

I figured maybe get $50 for game and Mic....maybe $50 for Guitar....so then I only pay $60 for the extra drum set.

Wow Tekker! If you're really going to sell the Guitar...man, I'll pay $55 plus shipping costs...please PM me if you're really thinking about it.

Are the controllers the same for the XBOX 360 and PS3? I have a PS3 so I'm wondering if they're cross-compatible.

Thats awesome!!

I have to buy a Y Splitter now and bring it and my kick pedal to my buddies house next time. Cuz, I gotta try this out!

Maybe HMX could sell a separate Kick Pedal with Y Splitter for 25 bucks?

Dbl Bass using a splitter works just fine. I'm using the hi-hat pedal from my midi kit. Pretty cool stuff.

I'm still waiting for someone to use a real midi kit in place of the drum controller. It was done with GH2, so RB cant be far behind. There appears to be some lag issues, but it is what it is ;)

I was actually looking for a midi pedal to use which one are you using that works? we snapped mine in half i got a new one coming from ea but im looking for an alternative. I wanted to try getting a bass drum pad so we could use a regular drum pedal but was unsure if itd work.

The pedal I am using is not a whole lot better than the RB pedal. It is from an Alesis kit.
It is sturdier and could handle a beating easier than the RB pedal, but other than that nothing to brag about.....

As far as using an actual pad from a kit, I popped a multimeter on one of my drum pads on the Alesis just to see how it reacted when hit. It's resistance varies depending on how hard it is hit. Soooo, you would probably have to hit a velocity sensing drum trigger pretty hard to use one for the bass. Unless you built something pretty sensitive to watch the circuit and trip a relay and act as the actual switch.

Wow that was geeky.......

I am working on a bass mod as we speak that uses a small activation pad switch 8"x5". Still deciding on frame work to hold the pad round tube steel, square tube steel, or aluminum tubing.

Kinda leaning to round aluminum tube to match the existing tube.

As soon as the pad comes in I should have some photos and testing that I will post.

Hmmm... i think this is the answer I have been trying to find. I was wanting to by a practice pad:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibraltar-GBDP-Bass-Drum-Pad?sku=446025

that you can use with a real bass pedal. I was then thinking I could get some kind of accoustic trigger and attach to the pad and then connnect the trigger to the bass input. But i didn't know if a trigger would actuallyonnect to that input... and if it DID connect, i didn't know if it was actually capable of triggering a response from the RB drum kit.

I was also thinking of getting a regular triggered bass drum pedal like this:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Roland-KD8-Kick-Trigger-Pad?sku=449921

Any thoughts on how any of this might work or if it would work?
