you have to create a character for each instrument as far as I can tell.
drummers/vocals and guitar will work for guitar and bass (although I haven't seen a bass guitar solo tour option)

I started out by creating a character and using the mic in solo mode but then went to start a solo career on the guitar. The character i created for my singing career is blacked out and it wont let me select it for the guitar one. Am i doing something wrong or do you have to create a seperate character for these?
Picking an instrument for a character is the same as picking a class for a RPG character (HMX employee analogy)... You pick one and you're stuck with it. In this case, there's some clothing and what not that's catered to specific instruments.

So, no.. you're doing nothing wrong. Make more characters. It's fun.

I'd still love to see a copy/paste option. I have a fairly badass Hetfield I'd like to move between vocals and guitar with minimal fuss.

Yeah, I felt that you should be able to create a character and toggle the instruments. I really hadn't seen any difference in clothing choices (by instrument), but I haven't messed around too much , playing gigs instead. The added benny, would be the ability to use the standard controller to design your character...seriously, who thought that the drums were appropriate for character design?!?

I was hoping for this functionality as well. When I have my band over to the house, we like to switch out singing, especially since i'm the only one who knows words to the Metallica DLC.

Just make the same character over again for each instrument or create different ones easy as that.
