No, this has nothing to do with yer bum.
This is about the position of Bassist in Rock Band.

I've come to terms with no solo career. No loss. But seeing as I love to pick "Bass" as my main instrument in the online modes... I find it hard to grasp it's secondary / alternative placement within the game.
For instance, in Band Quick Play (Online). It often comes down to two guitar -peripheral- players who don't know each other (like most of the band, assuming you are loner-ing it out).
Could be you've been playing with the others all night, the other guitar player left, and this new player steps in - Could be you all just started playing together too. Either way, you both want to play Bass / Guitar. One of you will have to forfeit your desire, either for the duration of the song, or the duration of the "Band."
That's alright and good when you have two reasonable people playing together. Willing to give a little / take a little in a good ol' fashioned compromise. But when you both have your hearts set on that one instrument, it gets a little annoying waiting it out or worse constantly searching for another "band."
It would be nice, if before starting your search for other players (or before you officially join your Band) you had an option. Either picking Guitar Only, Bass Only, or (Defaulting To) Open / Either / Any.
Same goes for Tug of War / Score Duel. Unless you manage to be the leader (50 / 50 chance), it's in the hands of someone else to pick your instrument. Why no just pick it before-hand and seek out people who only want to play bass / guitar and give you an option (again, it would default to this) to go with either.
It seems like an easy implementation for a title update, though I won't begin to say I understand the complexities of modern game console UI design... I'd still love to see it done :)
