View Full Version : What Did You Think Of School?

Okay I thought this would be a good question for everyone who's in college, working, etc. What did you think of school? I hated school save for my senior of high school. Most of the kids in my school were total ass***es.

I'm still in school, but there a lot of ass***es. I try to avoid them and just chill with my homies. They don't really bother me that much, but I know some people that have a little bit of trouble with them. Anyway, right now, school is ok. (I'm in 8th grade) I'm pretty smart so it's not too hard or anything. I basically just text people and talk to people during school.

Glad it's over, adult life in the real world is much much more awesome and fulfilling than life in the fake school world.

School blew chunks. I didn't mind the earlier years, but the only things I got from High School was an appreciation for Shakespeare. School bored me, and once I got teenagery and angsty I lost all interest.

All I wanted to do was play my guitar and hang out with my friends. In most classes I was busy listening to my walkman, secretly reading novels under the desk, drawing pictures or writing Weird Al style parodies of Metallica songs.

I used to hear from older people all the time that I should relish my school days, because they would be the be all end all of my existence. Later, I realized that these were jocks who were super popular in school, only to grow old and resent life and the fact that they were no longer 'famous'.

When I got my first full-time job, it was like freakin' Christmas. I still had to go somewhere and work for 8 hours, but I actually got PAID for it. And better yet, when the day ended I could go home and completely forget about the place, and do whatever the hell I wanted with my evening.

In any case, the public school system just wasn't up to the task of capturing the interest and imagination of a nerd like me. I did meet some great friends though. And my first public performance was playing Welcome Home (Sanitarium) at the school talent show. If only I could have gone to rock school instead...

Are you asking about high school or college? I would have completely opposite answers depending on which...

unfortunately, i'm still in school. Freshman year sucked. Sophmore year was a lot better but still pretty crappy. Junior year has been pretty good so far.

High school was actually a pretty fun time for me, barring the usual dose of teenage angst and unrequited crushes. I had a blast performing with our school's theater group (and even ended up writing and co-directing a play based on the comic Neil Gaiman wrote for Alice Cooper's Last Temptation) and generally got along with pretty much everyone. My opinion of the classes varied, but my Latin, philosophy and English teachers were those kind of special teachers who made a lasting impact on my life (especially the English teacher I had in my second year, a woman in her sixties who introduced me to Tolkien and even ended up joining us for a D&D game a few years later...there was no describing how awesome that woman was)

It wasn't nearly as awesome as college, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

See now if I had had the option of taking philosophy or latin in high school, I might have enjoyed it, but the only interesting classes I got to take were biology and physics, and even they weren't very in depth, in the usual American school system way, they had to be sure even the deeply stupid students could pass them.

Since I was homeschooled, it was fine. My mom was a good teacher. She had me do tons of English homework and read lots of books (heaven!).

I had to go to these co-ops, where homeschooled kids can learn subjects that their parents are unable to teach (like Algebra, Biology, etc.)

I hated going there. Whoever said cliques didn't exist in homeschooling should be beaten senseless. There was one in my Drama class that nearly drove me insane. Thankfully, there was a few girls that were in a similar situation like I was (used to be in public school, but later homeschooled), so I hung with them until 12th grade.

Senior year was awesome. I went to college early. :D

Haha, umm, ok, I'll take it that you're talking about the K-12 educational system then.

If that's the case, then I guess I'll vote for "School was cool". I never had any problems in high school or junior high and I actually enjoy learning new things so I liked classes.

When I was there, I probably thought that it sucked, but after going to a decent sized college and living in 3 different semi-large cities, when I look back high school just seems like a miniscule and irrelevant time in my life that I don't remember much from. Not that I didn't do anything (played sports, was fairly popular, dated, etc), it's just that when you're in high school you think that's all there is. Then once you leave you realize how much more there is.

Now college on the other hand....ahhhhhh, sweet, sweet college.

Yeah, college rules like a moficky. I majored in partying (with a minor in socializing) at UCONN and loved every minute of it. Granted, I never actually 'enrolled' in anything at the school, but I was there so often that people actually convinced themselves that they had seen me in classes.
I had one great friend that I would hang with all the time, so everyone thought I was officially his dorm mate.

Granted, I never got a degree or anything, but thems was some good times! Without college, I would have never experienced the wonders of crowd surfing in a tiny dorm room.

School was cool. I've been having a lot of dreams about middle school recently.

The only thing I really hated was Math. Ugh... I hate that class.

I haven't had any lately, but there was a period recently when I would dream about middle school too. No more 'first day of school' or 'no pants' nightmares though - the weird thing about these was that in all of them I could literally levitate and propel myself down the hallway while sitting/hovering in a lotus position.

It was pretty cool, actually. Wish I could do that in real life.

School was kind of lame for me... well... I made it lame myself, but it was also more of a prison where I went (not literally, just sayin), but Senior Year was FUN just because it was the last year and very exciting every day since it was one day closer to the end, plus we had Black and Gold day (our school colors) and I totally rocked the WWE Championship belt that day... it was epic.

Here are the things I liked about school:

-Made awesome friends that I still have to this day
-Figured out how to talk to women
-Girls in school girl outfits (Yay Catholic School)

That's it. High School for me was nothing more than going through the motions. Our teachers, principal, guidance counsellors spent most of their time protecting the image of the school as opposed to preparing us for the real world. They beat into our heads that if we didn't go to College or Uni we would end up broke and either on drugs or selling our bodies on the street.

It was a complete crock as we found out once we left. A buddy of mine decided not to go to college after graduating and became an apprentice for a Tool & Dye company. Most of us had no idea what that was because "trades" were never talked about in my highschool. So what happens? He makes over 60K in his first year of work at the age of 18. That was over ten years ago, I can only imagine what he makes nowadays.

So for me it was one big fraud. A way to get kids to enroll in University and pay stupid amounts of money for a degree that MIGHT get them into the door of a company.

So for all you kiddies out there, don't think that if you don't go to Uni it'll be the end of the world.

School for me was good then went bad, my first year was cool and their were no real judging you by your music tastes, but in my last year people started getting all divided, people who used to be friends not speaking because 'I like that loud music' and what makes is there is like only 2 other metal heads in my school and their the ones who love Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse & Marilyn Manson. It wouldn't be as bad if my life didn't revolve around music.

I should clarify. I'm not saying you shouldn't go to College. DEFINITELY go...

Furthering your education will never hurt, as long as you don't rack up too much debt.

And yes, you will have alot of fun in College :)

Middle school/High school is responsible for my social problems... if that tells you anything.

Well, I like it only because I get to see my friends.

That's pretty much it, everything else is teh lame.
