I have seen a lot of theories on how to make your drums quiet, but 2 of them nobody has verified if they work.

#1 Mouse Pads- Cutting mouse pads and placing them over the drum pads. A bunch of people said that they are going to do this, but nobody ever reposted if it worked.

#2 Rubber Tips- Getting Rubber tipped drum sticks. People say that it would probably work, but is there anybody with first hand experience that has used rubber tipped drum sticks on the rock band drums?

I don't know about the mouse pad thing. But I sorta know about the rubber tipped drumsticks. I sent my husband to a music store and they didn't have practice or rubber tipped (rubber at all) sticks. But he did get lighter weight sticks. So I went to cheap way lol. I bought small bouncy balls and drilled a hole in them and used them. It really cut down the noise and seems to "connect" better to me.

I put some surgical tubing over the tips, it doesn't cut down noise a LOT, but it definately helps.

I did put mousepads on mine, and it worked really well. You just need to make sure you get good quality mousepads or you will lose bounce off the pads. If you get thin POS mouse pads, they don't do as well.

My husband got rubber screw-covers from Home Depot and put them on the tips of the sticks, it helped quite a bit, but it's not perfect.
(We tried circles of felt on the drum heads, and that made almost zero difference.)

I did the surgical tubing AND the mouse pads and the mouse pads had much more effect on the noise level.

If you still have that thin, white packing material the PS3 came in. Cut some of it and wrap it around the tips of the sticks, then secure it with black Athletic tape. This tape is very soft and is cloth like. If you wrap all the way around so no more stick is showing, you will have a pretty neat product. Oh and absolutely no "clack" sound

I did the mousepad method and it works really well. I tried some material I had laying around already (kind of looks like the non-slip stuff you put under the silverware tray) but it actually disintegrated. hehe.

Good luck.

I have some of these. They come in a pack of 3 sets. Each set is a different thickness. Right now, I'm using the smallest ones. They keep the sound down a little, but what i like about them is they give more rebound. The big ones will probably muffle the pads more as well as provide more bounce.

If you wanna go for super quiet, the mousepad idea would work. Also, you can go to the store in the pharmacy and look for mole skin, or mole foam. It's an adhesive foam that's soft, but has some form to it. Too soft and it would feel like you're not hitting anything. I haven't tried these on snare sticks, but I don't see why they wouldn't work. Just providing more suggestions.

I am sorta in the same situation, trying to avoid having the tenants near me becoming angry with my furious beats. Good Luck!

i grabbed a thick rubberband n wrapped it around the tip. gives a lil better rebound and a lil bit quieter.

works for me

I finally got my bundle delivered yesterday and everyone is right....the drums are pretty loud. I was actually thinking of doing the mouse pad thing with mine but my question is do the drum pads lose any of their sensitivity with the mouse pads over them? Are you missing any notes or do you have to hit it harder?

I actually took an old blanket/afghan my wife was throwing away...cut it into 2" by 6" strips and wrapped those around the heads of sticks. Then I wrapped electrical tape around them...this muted it quite a bit. Don't wrap the electrical tape too tight or over the top...if you fully enclose the padding it will not disperse the sound as well...I learned the hard way and had to actually cut the top of my contraption open a little to make it softer sounding. They look ridiculous but work.

Here's my solution to the loud drums. I used the mouse pad idea and cut them into circles. Then, i bought some colored tape to differentiate between the pads for new people that may want to play drums. This setup is great, the annoying tapping sound is greatly reduced.

Here's what I did:

Works really well, and little loss of bounce - hasn't effected my playing, but its definately quieter!

Wow, nice job nosa and Cig, those look great. I want drums that are black and quieter! I'm definitely going to try one of you guys' mehtods.

I tried the mousepads but the ones I have might be a little to thick because it does affect the responsiveness. Also I tried the foam covers and that messes with the bounce. The next task is what the above guy did with the foam/felt covers. My main problem is the vibration that is caused which disturbs my downstairs neighbors. I tried putting blankets down but doesnt work. Anyone know of anything that could help with the impact sound?
