I've seen others make these, and I am curious to see opinions. Whcih do you prefer?
Both bands have had great albums come out over the years. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers had Damn the Torpedoes, and Fleetwood Mac had the legendary Rumours.
I for one prefer Fleetwood Mac. While most bands used the usual slew of instruments, Fleetwood Mac used tons of different instruments and sound, such as piano, banjo, and mandolin. Also, I believe their best album was slightly better than Tom Petty's.

definitely petty for me...
i really enjoy a handful of fleetwood mac's songs, but petty's had a really consistently stunning career.

Petty. Though I prefer his albums without the Heartbreakers.

Tom Petty. I feel like he has put out more good stuff over the years. Fleetwood Mac is still great though.

Petty...unless you want to stop Fleetwood Mac's eligibility before Nicks and Buckingham joined the band, then I'll reconsider.

Yes when they joined is when the band hit its highest point (Rumours;))

Commercially, true, there is no question about that, and I'm not saying that I don't like Rumours, it's a fine album, however, I prefer the earlier music.
