I'm not a big fan of rap, but I think it's safe to say there was more feeling, soul, and realism in most of tupac's catalog than over half of the rock artists today. I'd say my favorites would be Death around the corner, me against the world and hit em up. Been listening to alot of my long neglected cd's lately and that's what brought this topic up.

To Live and Die in LA also the lyrics are just so real.
Hit Em Up is by far the best Tupac song ever. It's just so....angry. I posted the censored version but go ahead and look up the uncensored one. It's way better but maybe not appropriate for the forums here.

woohoo, the forums have love for tupac, I figured I'd get alot of responses like the first one. Alot of great songs mentioned here that I forgot all about, I probably hadn't listened to tupac since a couple of years after he died, with the exception of the post-humous releases. I'm not gonna lie, I used to buy into the tupac's still alive stuff, and if he would have been it wouldn't have suprised me with all of the 7 day theories. Guess it was just wishful thinking.

Awesome topic! I figured you would get more negative responses. Glad to see that others like 2Pac.
My favorite is "How Do U Want It" - I think it's because that is the first song of his that I remember hearing. Actually saw the video on MTV. Those were the days.
Others that I really like are:
California Love (remix)
2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted
Drunk Freestyle (if you haven't heard this, take a listen)
Hail Mary and Toss It Up (under Makaveli)
These aren't his songs, but he's featured:
Thug Luv (Bone Thugs and Harmony feat 2Pac)
Smile (Scarface feat 2Pac)

Who is Tupac?
If you are adept enough to post on the forums, surely you can Google 2Pac/Tupac and get an answer to that question.

Pretty sure it's "Picture me Rollin' ".
And yeah Wurm , that ones great. I just always consider it by Digital Underground , even if it's on his solo album.
Never was a big Tupac guy although California Love was a sweet song.

Old school rap and hip-hop shouldn't be lumped together with today's hip-hop. N.W.A., Run-DMC, Tupac, Biggie, Public Enemy, etc. were real music. Maybe it's because there weren't ring tones back then. Back then a lot of funk, rock, R&B, Blues, Soul, and even gospel music were incorporated into hip-hop/rap. It was completely different.

Yeah didn't Dre sample Zeppelin's 'When the Levee Breaks' on The Chronic album, especially during the early 90's most Rappers took influence from funk resulting in a genre called G-Funk.

I wouldn't call NWA, 2pac, biggie, public enemy, old school rap, they're more of the forefathers of gangster rap. I would consider sugar hill gang, grandmaster flash and the furious five, spoonie gee, kurtis blow, to be old school(to name a few.)
Cant say I have ever listened to any Tupac.
If you like hip hop, you definitely should check it out. In my opinion Tupac's stuff is better than anything released in the last decade. But that's just my opinion.
How about a little early Tupac? From when he was part of Digital Underground. His part comes in at about 2:20

It's kinda crazy to think he started out as a backup dancer for these guys.
