View Full Version : PS3 Hard Drive Wipe - Recovering Bands

I had to reformat the hard drive of my PS3 over the weekend, and lost all of my saved game data. It's not a big deal re-creating my RB characters and unlocking things again, but I'd really like to recover my old band names for use with the online leaderboard. I'd created several bands, one that I was playing and others that I planned to use. Now when I recreate them, I'm told that the band already exists. I'm pretty sure that it's the same band - is there anyway to resync those names to my PS3? Or are they no longer going to be available to anyone?

The one band that I had played with still shows up on the leaderboards. It's Stack Error, at #333 ranked by total fands as of last night. Obviously I won't be able to get credit for those 334,000 fans again - and that's fine. But I'd love to use the name again if at all possible. It seems odd to leave it just lying around out there, slowly sinking down the list, waiting to show up on a VH1 Where Are They Now segment.

FYI, this is also an issue for the XBox 360 version. I didn't even wipe my hard drive, I manually deleted the band (because I wanted to change the avatar that was band leader), and my old band names are all in use.

We really need a way to manage this stuff soon. I want my old band names back.

Bands are at least tied to the Leader's gamertag/PSN ID, so hopefully with the new community website there will be a way to delete bands.

I would agree there should be a way to back up your save, either locally or on the HMX server.

I sure hope so. You're right, it's definitely tied to my gamertag, I was able to see my old band on the "just me and my friend list" version of the band leaderboards. I hope the community site or an imminent patch will bring us better band management tools.

I have an Xbox360 and they did a fall dashboard update on the fourth (tuesday). It erased ALL of my save data for EVERY game I have played until now. That's like 2 years worth of gamesaves gone because Microsoft's update. So now my band is gone, too. The band name was Harmonicus Cannon and was 810 on the leaderboards for all-time and the worst part is I did it all myself. Singing and playing guitar. My mom helped me out on a few vocals, but for the most part I got there myself. Now my saves are gone, so I can't play in my band anymore. I had 744,000 fans, reaching ever-so-close to the 1 million fans achievement, only to be shot down to none. And for what? On top of that, my guitar and my drums are broken. I can't do a damn thing with my Xbox360, or my $170 Rock Band. I'm pissed. Damn you factory errors...

Just FYI, that's really really strange. You're the only person I've heard from who had that problem. All my saves are still there on multiple profiles. That can't be much comfort, but still.

Same with me. I deleted my band from the system, yet I can't use the old names, because they still exist 'out there' somewhere. Same thing with random characters.

So far, I can't see a way to use the new community site to fix this.

I also can't see a way to delete rockers that I had once created and later deleted. Things are going to get very cluttered very soon...

Why didn't you backup your harddrive?

Some people are reporting that backing up a PS3 does not preserve the game save data on it. It's not clear he didn't; if he didn't, it's not clear that it would have helped.

To calrify, the back up feature on PS3 will copy over your game saves. It will not copy your ROCK BAND game save, because Harmonix purposefully copy protected the save file. It's not a system issue, it's a Rock Band issue.
