View Full Version : The Best Game Ever?

I'm pretty sure it is. Here's a few reasons why:

For me, it satisfies my gaming need, my ears' need for music, my hands' need for an instrument (I'm a real player, too), and my need for sense of accomplishment.

Besides my personal needs being met, the game is so masterfully done. I bought GHIII to hold me over, but I ended up trading it after a week. I should have known better, but I thought, "how bad can it be?" Pretty bad.

Here's what Harmonix knows: You have to play the covers with feeling and the mixes don't need to sound like elevator music. (black magic woman, baracuda for example) But enough about GHIII. We all know what doesn't need to be said.

The attention to detail in RB is what put me over the edge. One example:

At the end of the intro to Longtime, when it's just the organ playing, the spotlights begin to shine on each player one at a time and in time with the music. But that's not what got me. What got me was - when it came time for the spotlight to be on the bass player, it showed a closeup of the bass guitar - and you could see the ambient spot light turn on. I was like, "holy hell that's so awesome". Call me ***, but I actually got a chill.

The ONLY thing remotely negative I'll say is this:

There seems to me an overwhelming trend in a lot of the songs' guitar parts that looks like this:

o o
o o
o o
o o

Ya know? where's there just a lot of power chord up and down strumming. I'd like to see more riff-based guitar parts with lots of HOs and POs.

Other than that I'm simply elated that this game exists.

I would actually say this game would be nearly perfect if it weren't for the strum bar on the guitar. Fix that and the game is damn near perfect IMO.

You're ***... haha j/k

I agree 100% that the presentation in RB is miles ahead of anything we saw in any of the GHs. My only disappointment is that I'm usually too focused on the scrolling note charts to see how cool it is. Every now and then I'll catch a cool shot of my character and see how each detail from the character creation page has transferred and go "woah, that's so sweet" and then realize I just messed up my streak. :o

i've watched a bit of the band playing and i love it. My singer has jumped into the crowd, guitarist staring into the camera then kicking it, having guitarist, bassist & singer all jump at a song build up. It's great, really gets you into the feel of playing a high energy show. I love how they are actually playing the songs also, seeing the strings move is great.

I love this game, been playing it almost non stop since we got it on Tuesday.

That's why I would love to be able to watch a replay of my performance. If playing with a live singer, it could record his performance and play it as the vocal track. It would give everyone the opportunity to see just how BEAUTIFUL this game really is.

This game would be perfect (an 11 out of 10 on the OXM scale) if:
1. There was a patch for online BWT.
2. There were some riff-based guitar songs...maybe Impulse from endless sporadic (have you played the expert chart for this song on GH3??? OMG...Heaven!)
3. If the hit window was a little less strict/or if it were adjustable in some way. (maybe via cheat like GH3)

Then I'd never stop orgasming...is that even a word?

Best game ever? Yes... that's what I've been telling my friends.

...

Ok, I keed. It is, however, the best music game ever and one of the best games to come out this year (and that's saying something given how many great games we have seen so far).

Yeah, I think it needs to be narrowed down a little. I might go with Best Music/Rythym Game Ever, but there are so many other genres that it is hard to compare. Some people really like racing or FPS games and wouldn't care for this game at all. I am having a blast with Mass Effect right now, and I couldn't really say it was better or worse than Rock Band. It depends on what kind of game I want to play at the moment.
