General Reminder: Use Thread Tagging Wisely

The forum ugprade has introduced the new "thread tagging" feature, allowing users to add keywords or phrases to a topic.

Several users are taking liberty with this ability to troll/harass threads with inappapropriate tags.

Moderators can see who is leaving these tags, and they will take the same disciplinary action that other poor forum behavior entails.

Tagging is a method of searching or indexing. It creates an additional hover-over tooltip that allows you to give readers an idea of the subject matter or topics within a thread.

For example, if a thread was about next week's DLC, I might tag it with "Holiday DLC" "Foo Fighters" or similar.



If I were to tag it with a homosexual slur, swear word, or trolling phrase, that would be unacceptable. The same rules that apply to the whole forums apply to tags as well.

Appreciate what you already have. The custom title of my choosing would be "Collector of Dogtags", but those just don't get handed out, you know. ;) I'm pretty happy that my title color was changed; that and the sticky of my PS3 Expert Players Thread (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50711) have really made me happy amidst the situation of cancer which my grandmother is currently facing. It's the little things in life that can really make a person smile, you know.

True, I was extremely happy when I got stickies, well, one was for work, the other wasn't my idea, but I got the sticky because of quick-problem solving. and hey mister! I didn't get this tag for free, I had to win it ;)

And it showed! I wasn't as well-known and accepted at that point in time, so my sad story about my cousin didn't go over as well as I'd hoped. It really was (and still is) my birthday wish, though. I'd of hated to put anything else down because Lex said that it had to be your number one wish, and I wouldn't like to be a liar.

How far does inappropriate extend? Where is the line between joke tag and ban-worthy tag? I do a lot of "joke" tags, especially on troll bait and threads that... don't seem well thought out, but I don't think any of them are offensive.

some of the tags i've actually seen lately have been funny. some of them are stupid. and some of them go "Why is that tagged for that??"

But all in all, it's a neat, fun little feature.
