View Full Version : Aftermarket Bass-Pedal Plate

I work with a company that specializes in custom fabrication work.

We are thinking about designing a custom aluminum drum-pedal plate that would rivet or more likely bolt on to the top of the drum pedal to give it more strength. It would be similar to a couple of the mods people have done on here, but with a very clean, precise fit and a diamond-plate or some other textured finish on it.

Keep in mind, this technically would void the warranty on the pedal... but they don't require the pedal to be sent back for warranty replacement so nobody would have to know. (They mail you a new pedal and you throw the old one away). It could also theoretically be used to repair broken-in-half pedals that were already replaced under warranty to have a spare, or a double-bass mod.

My question is... how many people would be interested in buying one of these? For production purposes there would have to be a minimum quantity for it to be worthwhile, so I'm just trying to get an estimate.

My rough estimate is that for the aluminum plate and tooling costs, they would probably come out around $25 apiece.

Please vote in the poll and let me know if there is enough demand to even go forward with getting quotes for these to be produced. Thanks!

your info isnt true. I have already sent away for a new drum petal and need to return the old one. If they did what you say they are, that is incredibly stupid because you could just say its broken when it really isnt to have a spare for after the warenty is up. Also, they want to see if they can recycle parts. They can reuse the spring and in most cases the bottom part of teh petal if the petal cracked. All they need to do is put a new piece of plastic on the rod and it saves them money.

hopefully they see that this is an issue and make a reinforced one.

yup. if you really didnt need to send back the old kick pedal, everyone would be requesting a 'replacement' to do the double bass mod.

Always an issue of cost, but I wouldn't mind a more badass bass-drum pedal. Count me in.

I would definitely get one, that would reinforce it quite a bit if it has a complete aluminum cover over the pedal it wouldn't put any stress on the plastic for it to even break.

I can confirm that I was told when ordering a replacement Kick-Drum pedal that I was specifically told that I would not have to return the broken one.

I ordered a replacement Guitar, Drumset, and Pedal all at the same time (because all of my components broke). I have RMA numbers for the drumset and the guitar, but was specifically told (and I asked again to clarify) that the Kick Pedal could be discarded and would not have to be returned. Furthermore, I have tracking numbers for all three products, however I only have the authorization hold on my credit card for two products.

Perhaps the policy has changed since you requested replacement, or more than likely you saw a generic page that is shown when you request any online instrument replacement; but the person I spoke to on the phone assured me I could do whatever I wanted with the old pedal.

i was told by the website to return the kick petal. and i was charged the fee. It also said that if the petal was not returned, it would cost me 125 on my credit card. Maybe it was different for yours? i mean, i answered that my petal was the issue, it wasnt registering, even though it cracked, that wasnt an option. If they are telling you to throw away the old petal, i am very very surprised by that, people will tell them that its broken so much jsut to have 10 extras on hand. but then again, customer support hasnt been the best help to everyone

I think they would hope that people wouldn't be dishonest about it. The same applies to people missing instruments altogether. Nothing stops someone from lying and saying they didn't get a guitar or drums, etc.... except your own morals of course. There will always be people who will try to take advantage.

Regardless, this is getting off topic. If you want a warranty on it, don't mod your pedal. If you want to mod your pedal anyway, this is an option.
