Ofcurs you don't need that large of a pack. You can also try noise dampening rubber tips for your sticks.

A quick (and cheap) solution, grab a piece of sponge from whatever object and tape it to the tip of the drum stick. I did it and it was a considerable improvement.

They also make rubber tipped sticks. I've never bought them and haven't seen them in years, but I'm sure they are still around. That might also help the longevity of your pads instead of hitting them with wood tipped sticks.

Rubber tips would also help to give a little more kick back from the stick off of the pad. Single stroke rolls aren't nearly as clean on the peripheral as they are on a real snare.

hmmm, the noise level of the drums really doesn't bother me. I mean they are technically drums...
