View Full Version : Is more focus going into the 360 version at the moment?

It seems like every video we've seen has been running on the 360 and mostly everything on the PS3 front has been quiet. Is it just by chance that the videos taken were running on the 360 and not the PS3 or are all demonstrations going to be on the 360? I don't have either console at the moment - and if one version seems noticeably more polished than the other, it will probably influence which one I get. Maybe there's more going into the PS3 than we're hearing about yet? It just seems like there's an imbalance so far - at least press-wise.

C'mon, honestly, have you played a game that came out on two consoles at once that were different at all? I doubt it, the only I can think of were GTA:SA, Resident Evil 4, and GH2, which all came out on different consoles at different times. The game is coming out on PS3 and XB360 at the same time, so I doubt there would be a lot of difference between the two. The only change they will make will be on the Wii, if that one doesn't come out at the same time (which it won't, because it hasn't been announced). Madden is never better on different consoles, so why would anything be? The only possible difference in my mind would be graphical, and who cares about the graphics anyway, as long as they're decent. This is just a bunch of nonsense whining.

It isnt nonsense.. this has happened with some of the earliest ps3 games , with Medal of Honor Airborne and With Rainbow Six , They were all Delayed.. and i dont want RockBand to be the Third title to what this incident has happened to.. so i just want an answer from Harmonix Please Just tell us Are you guys working on RockBand Ps3 ? and Another question from a Friend Will you make a Wii Version ?

You really can't blame them for focusing on the 360. It is just about the number of units sold. The PS3 is still number 3 right now (who would have saw this last October? Not me.) I don't see that changing soon either. It's still hard to get a Wii around here (Northern CT) but I can walk into any store and get a PS3 anytime I want.

PS: I have a Wii and a 360, and really don't ever expect to buy a PS3. But I never thought I would own a PS2 either. Damn Guitar Hero.

I'm fairly certain with a game of this magnitude it'll still be a simultainious release..

And even if it is delayed it won't be a case of them not working on a ps3 version and "more focus going into the 360".. it's just that the PS3 is harder to develop for (at least for the first cycle) as noted by many game developers, and it's possible that the 360 already has a bunch of code in place thanks to their work on GH2.

I imagine the only core differences between consoles you're going to find will come down to the online componant (how many people you've got to play with, and whether you prefer Live or PSN features).. the 360 may have an ever so slight advantage in graphics--going by past multi-console next-gen releases, but I doubt it'll be enough to be a deal breaker.

The only reason the focus is on 360 right now is simply because it is easier for them to get out early versions of it on 360 because of a few things. First of all it has had GH on it in the past, and as we saw from the Welcom to the Jungle video, the earliest versions/ mockups of this game was basically Guitar Hero with more instruments.

Also as other people have noted PS3 (and the Wii) are new systems and more than likely it will take more time for them to produce what they have on the 360, even with this in mind I don't expect PS3 to have a later release than 360.

Harmonix has already clearly stated that they are developing Rock Band for the PS3. There is no need for them to repeat that every week.

The only important issue when choosing a system will be, what are your friends on? You're going to want to play online with your buddies, so make sure you're all on the same platform.

Honestly, it is nonsense. You don't have to worry that this will be better on 360; that's just ignorant. Just be patient and you'll see that it'll all work out!;)

I would love to see some more on the PS3, I can understand why they haven't showed us yet though. They can easily use the GH2 controllers from the 360 for the videos but as far as I know, there are no guitars that they can fullly use properly for the PS3, perhaps when they are all finished, we will see more.

if it does happen, its not harmonix to blame, Blame sony for making the Dev Kit for the PS3 the most dificult language ever.

More focus is going on the Xbox 360 for almost all cross-platform games, because the stupid developers don't realize that it would be a lot easier to make the game on the PS3 first and then port it over to the 360 very quickly without reducing the quality.
But also, if games are made for the 360 first, then the developers and publishers can wait until more PS3s are sold in order to sell more copies, but fewer PS3s are sold because a lot of developers and publishers are doing this, so they have to wait longer, which is where some companies are just too stupid to realize how capitalism works. (They can't earn money if they are sitting on the product for months at a time)
And MS helps out the developers a lot more than Sony does, so they make the 360 version first. But sometimes they don't try whatsoever when they port it to the PS3, so it ends up like FEAR.

Does it matter what they focus on first? There has already been a Harmonix game on 360 so the platform is familiar. The core demographic for Xbox 360 users is more compatible with a game like rock band anyway. (make me post reasons why if you must)

Well said

No dude, not well said. Not well said at all...

Is this guy a dev? Who is this guy? He's gotta be pretty smart because he is calling all the developers stupid.

Do you know for a fact that it would be easier to make it for PS3 and then port it to 360. All logic says otherwise, what seeing as how it has not been done yet!

I read amish's post and my head hurts. I'm going to have to go with Norm McDonald from Billy Madison on this one:

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

As much flack as Microsoft takes for... just about everything, they've made some shrewd moves with regards to their development environment and tools.

This has given them a decided advantage in recruiting software shops to create games for their platform. Much more so that the PS3, which has been universally lamented for its dev kit's difficulty in use and implementation.

Combined with the shop's experience already making a 360 game, it is only logical to pick that as a starting platform. It does not suggest that the PS3 is somehow being "ignored". It just means that they had to start out somewhere, so why not start with something already extremely familiar.

I am going to A: pretend like you didn't call all developers stupid since you obviously are a powerful executive/programmer/designer/hardware specialist at a leading developer and B: pretend like you aren't a fanboy trying to start up a console war which is very clearly in violation of the rules of this site.

I think he's just a little naive. I'm a PS3 fanboy but even I can accept the PS3 is harder to code for. I'm thinking/hoping dev's will get used to it soon enough though.

Uh, why do they have to prove that they have everything working to you? Are you that insecure that its not coming out on the PS3? Just calm down, you're almost as bad as Sora whining about the Wii.
